Board Queen Savannah Ingram was
named Miss Naimuma for 2016-17 by
the United Indigenous Students in
Higher Education at Portland State
University during its powwow held
on Saturday, April 23.
Ingram originally ran for the title
in 2009 and was the irst runner-up.
At that time, United Indigenous Stu-
dents said that 2009 was the irst time
that they had ever had Royalty.
“To my knowledge, Savannah is the
irst Grand Ronde Tribal member to
hold the title,” said her mother, An-
Savannah Ingram
nette.
United Indigenous Students in
Higher Education has been sponsoring a powwow for 45 years. In
her role as Miss Naimuma, Ingram will attend conferences, events
and powwows to represent the organization and Portland State
University.
Ingram is not currently enrolled at Portland State, but plans to
transfer to the university after she completes the Clinical Laboratory
Assistant program at Clackamas Community College. She currently
has an associate degree in science that she earned from Mt. Hood
Community College in Gresham in 2015.
Ingram is 20 years old.
