On July 28, 2015, Tribal Council passed an Authorization to Proceed,
authorizing a feasibility study for the proposed community swimming/
fitness pool in Grand Ronde. The feasibility study is not an approval to
build the project in Grand Ronde, but rather an approval to research and
explore the possibility of building a swimming pool. The feasibility study
will gather information including, but not limited to, conceptual designs
including size, required facilities, the market and service area, estimates
for site preparation work and development and construction costs, funding
options and projected operational costs. Once the feasibility study has been
completed, the General Manager’s Office and staff will present the results
of the feasibility study to Tribal Council for their review so they can then
in turn solicit feedback from Tribal members. The decision to complete the
feasibility study responds to the input and opinions expressed at the June
3 Community Input meeting, which included that Tribal members needed
more information about cost and impacts to the Tribal budget. If you have

2010 – Tribal member Stacia Martin, who was ending her Hatfield
Fellowship in the Washington, D.C., office of U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader,
was hired as the freshman congressman’s communications director.
2005 – Oregon State Parks and Recreation and the Confederated
Tribes of Grand Ronde announced plans to join forces to bring the
history of Fort Yamhill back to life. “The park is intended to provide
an archaeological history of Fort Yamhill,” said Tribal Engineer Eric
Scott. Grand opening of the state park was scheduled for March 2006.

crowned Senior Miss Grand Ronde. Judges were Kathryn Harrison,
Diane Lane and Joann Mercier.
1990 – Oregon gubernatorial candidates Barbara Roberts and Dave
Frohnmayer sat down for lengthy interviews with Smoke Signals.
1985 – The Tribe ran an extensive thank you list for those who
helped with the first powwow, “weht nesika mihtlite.” Veterans Tom
Leno and Herman Hudson were recognized for carrying in the eagle
staff and U.S. flag during grand entry.
