An internship (full-time/part-time) is a real-world experience related to your career goals and interests. Internships can be what helps you stand out in your job interviews after college. Most employers look for a combination of formal education and experience. It may, but does not have to be related/connected to your academic major or minor. Internships can be done during the academic semester and/or summer. There are several varieties of internships: some are paid, some are not and some offer credit toward graduation (from Stonybrook University’s Career Center). Not only are you gaining valuable hands-on experience, you are also networking and making connections to professionals in your future career field. CTGR Higher Education encourages students to explore internship opportunities to supplement their college education. n LIBRARY HOURS: Monday – Friday: 9 a . m . – 6 p . m . (closed Monday - Friday: noon – 1 p . m .) Saturday: 10 a . m . – 2 p . m . Reading Incentive Program: Of the 55 registered youth we had for this program, we had 24 active readers who read a total of 455 books with a total of 11,854 minutes of reading. Readers age 5 through 13 did an awesome job of maintaining their reading skills throughout the program. Three of our readers received a Star Reader trophy for reading 1,000 or more minutes. Congratulations to all of our readers and their families who helped with the time tracking. Institute of Museums & Library Services: We are pleased to announce that the Tribal Library recently received notice that our application for an IMLS grant will be awarded effective Aug. 1, 2015, through July 31, 2016. The funding will be used to sup- port new programs in the library geared to technology. We will be purchasing e-readers for library use and training, and a gaming system and E-T games for it. Later in the year we will host a family night featuring our new tools. Our appreciation for everyone who completed the Library Technology Needs Assessment. Results of the assessment will be considered when we purchase the new systems. Back-to-School: School start-up is just around the corner. The library has new books for all ages to kick off this event and we will be passing out “School Is Cool” bookmarks to students who visit the library during the first week of school. Donations: Our thanks to Martina Gilbert, April Makinson and Jed Schrock for their contributions to the library collection this reporting period. We appreciate the generosity of our friends of the library. Reminder: Donated items must be clean and in good condition. Inter-Library Loan services: The Tribal Library partners with Oregon State Library to offer “library to library” inter-library loan services. By completing the inter-library loan form, library patrons may request items from the Oregon State Library collection. Items will be couriered to and from the Tribal Library. OSL lending pol- icies apply for return of items.
