Dear Smoke Signals:
This is in regard to the $25,000 the Willamina High School wants to
hang our flag. They have already reaped the financial rewards from our
Tribe. We’ve already paid a big enough price with what’s happened in our
past without this insult. This is a slap in our face (again); ours and our
ancestors.
It is an honor and a privilege to have our flag. They should be paying us.

Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley will hold a Town Hall at 5 p.m. Saturday, June
20, at the Tribal Community Center, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.
He will update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C., and answer
questions and invite suggestions about how to tackle the challenges facing
Oregon and the United States.
“There are huge issues facing Oregonians and the best way for me to
effectively advocate for Oregon’s families and businesses is by getting out
on the road and holding a town hall in every county, every year to hear
directly from Oregonians,” he said. “I invite all residents of Polk County to
come and discuss what we need to do to strengthen our state and union.”
Since joining the Senate in 2009, Merkley has held a town hall in each
of Oregon’s 36 counties every year. Polk County’s will be his 243rd.
Earlier in the day, he also will hold a Town Hall at 1 p.m. at the Port
of Tillamook Bay Officers Mess Hall, 6825 Officers Row, in Tillamook. n
Lamprey season opened on June 1
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has designated the

Harvesting is confined to the east side of Willamette Falls and
does not include the horseshoe area at the peak of the falls. Gear is
restricted to hand or hand-powered tools only.
A permit is required, but Tribal members are allowed to use their
Tribal enrollment card in lieu of a state-issued permit.
Catches must be recorded on an Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife harvest card available from the Tribe’s Natural Resources
Department or by contacting the Clackamas ODFW Office, 17330
S.E. Evelyn St., Clackamas, OR 97015. All harvest cards must be
returned by Aug. 31, 2015.
