New Culture Class Video
Clap Stick Making
There is a new addition to the Culture Class Videos (available at
http://www.grandronde.org/culture/culture-class-videos). Joining the
videos about Basket Making, Drum Making and Beading is a Clap
Stick Making Class.
Clap Sticks are one of our original percussion instruments and are
made from the Elderberry tree. The video class takes you through the
entire process, from identifying and selecting a good branch to singing
with the final product. Bobby Mercier does an excellent job explaining
and demonstrating the process. He includes historical processes and
uses as well as “work smarter, not harder” steps using modern tools;
allowing you to determine the best method for creating your clap stick.
