ATTENTION
Attorney returns
If you are currently receiving or are in need of SNAP benefi ts, Social
Services provides an Oregon Department of Human Services case-
worker who comes to Grand Ronde twice monthly on Wednesdays. The
caseworker may assist with applications, updates, child care, etc. If you
are in need of services, call 503-879-2034 to schedule an appointment
or you can reach Michelle Carmona at 503-879-4523. n
Smoke Signals to be limited
to a copy per household
Starting on Jan. 1, Smoke Signals’ distribution will be limited to one
newspaper per household as instructed by a Tribal Council authorization
to proceed approved on Nov. 5.
Duplicate copies of Smoke Signals will no longer be mailed to the same
Tribal household address unless Publications is notifi ed of the need for
more than one copy to go to an individual address by Monday, Dec. 15.
The decision is a cost-saving move for the Tribe. The cost to mail out
Tribal publications is the second largest expenditure within the Publica-
tions Department, according to Publications Coordinator Dean Rhodes.
“Smoke Signals will continue to be distributed in the Sheridan, Willa-
mina and Grand Ronde area at newsstands for those who would like to
pick up extra copies,” Rhodes said. n
S. Amanda Marshall, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, listens as
Tribal Council Secretary Toby McClary talks during a meeting in Tribal
Council’s conference room on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Also sitting in on the
meeting is Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim W. Simmons, right, and chief of
the Criminal Division, Assistant U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams, middle.
Marshall was appointed as U.S. Attorney for Oregon by President Obama
in October 2011. While attending Willamette University College of Law,
she served as the Tribal Court clerk for the Grand Ronde Tribe.
