Omololu. “A family can only hoard its troubles for so long.” Omololu is a writer who never intended to become a writer. She attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she majored in English only because she was a junior and needed to choose a major. Since she had taken more English classes than anything else, English became her major. She decided to become a writer when she was reading to her children and realized there needed to be more books about biracial kids and people. Omololu has written several Young Adult novels as well as some children’s books. This book is about a girl named Lucy, who is liv- ing with a huge secret. Lucy is faced with the task of trying to hide her family’s secret and still live the life of a normal teenager. Will she fi gure out a way to hide her mother’s obsessive hoarding when faced with a tragedy or will her life come falling down? This book is a Young Adult fi ction book with lots of secrets and choices having to be made in minutes. Will Lucy make the right ones? This novel and all its secrets unfold in about a 24-hour time period. “Dirty Little Secrets” is different than other books I’ve read, and honestly it’s different than what I expected it to be. I would recommend this book for that exact reason; it’s different than what you think it’s going to be. You think one thing is going to happen and then all of a sudden the complete opposite happens. The writer did a very good job of keeping me on my toes throughout.
