Social Services holding
School Clothes Program
Olympia effort
The Social Services Department is holding its 2014 School Clothes Pro-
gram. This is a first-come, first-served program.
A child must be an enrolled Grand Ronde Tribal member and must be
of school age and enrolled in school (preschool, elementary, middle or high
school).
Income criteria apply. Contact Social Services at 800-242-8196 or 503-
879-2034 for an application. Deadline for applications is Sept. 15. n
ATTENTION
If you are currently receiving or are in need of SNAP benefits, Social
Services provides an Oregon Department of Human Services case-
worker who comes to Grand Ronde twice monthly on Wednesdays. The
caseworker may assist with applications, updates, child care, etc. If you
are in need of services, call 503-879-2034 to schedule an appointment
or you can reach Michelle Carmona at 503-879-4523. n

• Cultural Trust Board meets at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month
at the Elders’ Activity Center. Chair: Perri McDaniel.
• Culture Committee meets at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at
the Chachalu Museum & Cultural Center. Chair: Betty Bly.
• Education Committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the first Monday of the
month in the Adult Education Building. Chair: Tammy Cook.
• Elders’ Committee meets at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in
the Elders’ Activity Center. Chair: Gladys Hobbs.
• Enrollment Committee meets quarterly in Room 204 of the Governance

Grand Ronde Tribal representatives met with Washington Gov. Jay
Inslee on Friday, Sept. 5, in Olympia to discuss the Tribe’s inclusion
in the state’s Centennial Accord. While there, Tribal representatives
presented Inslee with a traditional paddle carved by Tribal member and
Land and Culture employee Bobby Mercier. From left, Tribal Council
Executive Coordinator Stacia Martin, Tribal Council member Cheryle
A. Kennedy, Inslee, Tribal Council member Jon A. George and Cultural
Protection Program Manager David Harrelson admire Mercier’s work.
Also attending the meeting with Inslee were Senior Staff Attorney
Deneen Aubertin Keller and Public Affairs Director Siobhan Taylor.
While meeting with Inslee, Tribal representatives also presented Inslee
an informational packet that explains the Grand Ronde Tribe’s historical
and cultural connection to southwest Washington state.
