Interior schedules meetings on federal
acknowledgement regulations
Award-winning casino
The U.S Department of the Interior will hold a public meeting and a
consultation meeting with Tribes on proposed new federal acknowledge-
ment regulations on Tuesday, July 15, in Portland.
The public meeting will be held at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Regional
Office, 911 N.E. 11th Ave., from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The Tribal consultation
meeting will be held in the same location from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
The proposed regulations would reform the 35-year-old process by which
the Department of the Interior officially recognizes Tribes.
The proposed rule, frequently asked questions and other information are
online at www.bia.gov/WhoWeAre/AS-IA/ORM/83revise/index.htm.
Comments on the proposed rule are due by Aug. 1 to consultation@bia.
