Walking On...
Eugene A. Hudson
March 28, 1921 – May 17, 2014
Tribal Elder Eugene A. Hudson
walked on on May 17, 2014, at Grand
Ronde. He was the son of Abraham
Hudson and Maude (Warren) Hud-
son. He was 93.
Gene joined the Army 10 days af-
ter Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served
throughout World War II. He served
in Tunisia, Naples, Foggia, Rome,
Arno, the North Apennines and
Po Valley. He earned the Ameri-
can Theater Service Medal, Victory
Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and
European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He served with
the 3142nd SIG SV GP, 10th Mountain Division, 5th Army. He was
discharged after the war.
“Uncle Gene” was always happy and had a very good sense of humor
that was enjoyed by everyone. He lived in Salem most of his life and
worked in various positions. He was a diehard Portland Trail Blazers
fan. He participated in numerous Native American activities includ-
ing the Indian Education Committee in Salem, Chemawa Veteran’s
Powwow Committee, Siletz USDA program and numerous Tribal
activities with the Grand Ronde Tribe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He
also was preceded in death by his son, Donald Hudson. He is survived
by his sons, Ronald Hudson and Bill Hudson of Keizer, Ore. He had
10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand-
child. He had numerous relatives of the Grand Ronde Tribe. To honor
his request, no services will be held.
A special thanks to the Tribe’s Adult Foster Care employees for
their excellent care of Gene.

Help needed identifying plots
The Facilities Department is asking for help identifying veteran’s plots.
If your family member’s or friend’s plot is a veteran and we do not have a
veteran’s flag present on holidays, please inform us.

The Behavioral Health Department will host a Sacred Hoop Ceremony
at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, in the Tribal gym.
The four gifts of the Sacred Hoop are the power to forgive the unforgive-
able, healing, hope and unity.
The Sacred Hoop will bring blessings and healing. The ceremony is open
to all people, so bring your families and friends.
The hoop brings healing for all recovering from different traumas (his-
torical, intergenerational, addiction, etc.). It also strengthens sobriety and
Wellbriety in the community.
