Investment meeting
This is to inform you of the upcoming annual election opportunity
to recommend an investment option that best suits your tolerance
for investment risk. The election deadline is May 16, 2014, and the
investment period will be effective from June 1, 2014, to May 31,
2015.
n Sunday, May 4, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Tribal Community Center
(before General Council meeting), 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand
Ronde, OR 97347.
A member of the Tribe’s investment consulting team from Rob-
ert W. Baird & Co. will be present at the meeting to answer your
questions. If you are unable to attend this meeting, you may still
speak with a member of the Tribe’s investment consulting team by
contacting the office of Joseph S. Hoon at 877-792-3667 between the
hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Below is the most current information on the meeting days and times for
Tribal Committees and Special Event Boards:
• Ceremonial Hunt Board meets as needed. Chair: Marline Groshong.
• Cultural Trust Board meets at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month
at the Elders’ Activity Center. Chair: Perri McDaniel.
• Culture Committee meets at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at
the Chachalu Cultural Center and Museum. Chair: Betty Bly.
• Education Committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the first Monday of the
month in the Adult Education Building. Chair: Tammy Cook.
• Elders’ Committee meets at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in
the Elders’ Activity Center. Chair: Gladys Hobbs.
• Enrollment Committee meets quarterly in Room 204 of the Governance
Building. Chair: Robert Schmid.

Tribal Council appoints
committee, board members

For the second meeting in a row,
Tribal Council dealt with a slew
of appointments and re-appoint-
ments to Tribal committees and
special event boards at its April 16
meeting.
During the meeting, Tribal Coun-
cil:
• Appointed Jamie Adams to the
Social Services Committee;
• Re-appointed Mike Colton, Mar-
line Groshong and Matt Thom-
as to the Ceremonial Hunting
Board;
• Re-appointed Linda Brandon,
Marcus Gibbons and Margaret
Provost to the Culture Commit-
tee;
• Re-appointed Kevin Schultz to
the Fish & Wildlife Committee;
• Re-appointed Gladys Hobbs,
Bernadine Shriver and Patti
Tom-Martin to the Health Com-
mittee;
• Appointed Dakota Whitecloud
and Steve Bobb Sr. to the Grand
Ronde Tribal Housing Authority
Board;
• And appointed Steve Bobb Sr.
and re-appointed Wayne Chulik,
Reina Nelson and Wink Soder-
berg to the Veterans Special
Event Board.
In addition, Tribal Council ap-
proved enrollment of four infants
into the Tribe and relinquishment
requested by one Tribal member,
as well as adopted amendments
to the Rodeo Special Event Board
bylaws.
Tribal Council also approved the
Tribe’s application to the U.S. De-
partment of Labor’s Employment
and Training Administration for
Workforce Investment Act service
to Polk and Yamhill counties. If
funding is received, the Tribe would
provide employment and training
services to Native Americans and
Alaskan/Hawaiian Natives in the
two counties.
The grant sum, if awarded, will be
an allocation based on the service
population and the total Workforce
Investment Act funds available,
said Tribal Planning and Grants
Manager Kim Rogers.
Also included in the April 16
Tribal Council packet was an au-
thorization to proceed that changes
the meeting time of the April 30
Tribal Council meeting to 10 a.m.
“to allow sufficient time to address
proposed disenrollment actions.”

cus Gibbons provided the cultural
drumming and singing to open the
meeting. n

Mending Broken Hearts training set
The White Bison Mending Broken Hearts training will return to the
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Wednesday through Friday, June
18-20, at the Tribal Education Center, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.
The purpose of the training is to offer a culturally based way of heal-
ing from grief, loss and intergenerational trauma, especially for Native
American people in the United States and Canada.
The training is free, but people must register to attend. Participants
are asked for a three-day commitment and must attend from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. each day.
To register or to obtain more information, contact Alcohol and Drug
Counselor Karan Scharf at 503-879-2029.
The training is sponsored by the Tribe’s Behavioral Health Program and
funded through a Meth and Suicide Prevention Initiative grant. n
