Walking On...
Madeline Lucille (smith) nelson
1929 – March 17, 2014
Madeline Lucille Nelson was
born in Jamestown, Kan. She
was preceded in death by her
husband, John (Pappy) Nelson
in 1992. They had been married
since Aug. 5, 1954. She also was
preceded in death by her parents,
Thelma Jane (VanScoyk) and
Archie Leon Smith, along with
brothers Bud and Bob Smith and
sister Donna Russ.
Madeline is survived by her and
John’s seven children: Richard Ray, Anita (Nelson) Jones, Carolyn
(Nelson) Sherrell, Dale, Darrel and Doug Roberts and Greg Nelson.
She also is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren, as well as by many who she consid-
ered her children and grandchildren.
Madeline passed away in her home on March 17, 2014. She wished
to be cremated. Arrangements are being handled by Dallas Mortuary
Tribute Center. Madeline wished to have her ashes joined with her
husband John’s in the Trinity Alps in northern California. Their son,
Greg Nelson, will horseback in to join the two for eternity.
She wishes for the family and friends to have a barbecue later with
a date and time to be determined. Arrangements are being made by
her son, Richard Ray, a Grand Ronde Tribal member, and his wife,
Kathi Ray. The barbecue will be held in the Elders’ Activity Center
of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in Grand Ronde. The
family wishes to thank the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde for
taking care of their mother and making her wishes possible.
John (Pappy) Nelson owned and operated his truck, a MFG home
toter, and Madeline (Little Mama) drove pilot car for him and many
other drivers until her retirement in 2006.
A part of our hearts has gone with them and a part of theirs will
always be with us, until our Father and our Lord brings us together
again. Our hearts will always miss them.
The family wishes to thank Bollman Funeral Home for caring
for them through this time. Online condolences may be left for the
family at www.dallastribute.com.

Opal M. Davidson turns 99 on
Saturday, April 19. Her dream is to
see 100, at the age when Elders
all across the country receive a
congratulatory letter from the
President of the United States.
And, of course, she also looks for-
ward to receiving the traditional
Tribal blanket. One more year,
Opal, but friends, family and the
Tribe can’t wait. We all offer con-
gratulations to you this year, too.
You’ve come a long way, baby!
