Scholarships available
The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) annually awards more than
$7 million in scholarships to Oregon students through our statewide
scholarship program. Two of these scholarship programs are targeted
specifi cally to Native American students.
VERL AND DOROTHY MILLER NATIVE AMERICAN SCHOL-
ARSHIP
Eligible students include Native American residents of Oregon attending
or planning to attend an accredited trade or vocational school in Oregon.
The awards are for $1,500-$3,000/year - students may apply and compete
for the scholarship for up to four years.
HOWARD VOLLUM AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP
Eligible students include Native American residents of Clackamas, Mult-
nomah, Washington and Clark counties seeking post-secondary education
or training in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The awards
are for $3,000/year for up to fi ve years of undergraduate study and two
years of graduate study.
Criteria for both scholarships:
* Participation in school or community activities;
* Personal accomplishments or achievements;
* Preference given to students who have a demonstrated commitment
to and involvement in the Native American community;
* Open to students with a certifi cation of Tribal enrollment or decendants
of enrolled members.

Deadline: Scholarship applications are due March 1 for the next aca-
demic year.

Looking for scholarships?
There are numerous scholarship opportunities offered for students to apply to
each year. The majority of scholarships for fall term/semester are due between
January and April of each year. Don’t miss your chance to apply for FREE
money for college! The Tribal Higher Education programs are here to assist
you in your application process.
You also can utilize a scholarship search engine to help you locate scholarships.
If you use a scholarship search site, be sure to read the privacy policy to ensure
you are using a site that will not sell your contact information. A recommended
search site to use is www.kaarme.com.
LIBRARY HOURS:
Monday – Friday: 9 A . M . – 6 P . M .
(closed Monday - Friday: noon – 1 P . M .)
Saturday: 10 A . M . – 2 P . M .
Movie Night: First Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. Please
note the time change from the previous movie series. These mov-
ies are all General–PG and are family type movies. Youth ages 12
and under must be accompanied by an adult older than 18 years
of age.

• April 3: “Hotel For Dogs”
Coming in January: The “Get Fired Up for Reading” program
will begin Jan. 15 and end Feb. 28. The library aligns this program
with the Chinese New Year, which is Jan. 31 through Feb. 14 . For
each book that is read we will add a dragon scale that states the
book title and reader’s name. The more books that are read, the
bigger our dragon will be. In 2013, readers read 211 books. Let’s
try to break that record in 2014! This reading incentive program
is for all ages.
Battle of the Books: Local school districts compete in the Battle
of the Books program each year. The Tribal Library collection
contains many of the Battle books listed for Oregon available for
check out.
Donations: Many thanks to the following contributors to the
library collection: Connie Holmes, Jennifer Gettle, David Mercier,
Eirik Thorsgard, Teisha Sawyer, Ali Holsclaw and RedSky, Margo
Ordaz and Jerry George.
REMINDER: The library no longer accepts the following: VHS
movies; cassette tapes (books/music); and/or paperback books (mass
produced). Donated items must be clean and in good condition.

The Tribal Library is a CCRLS Circulation Site: Use your
Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Services library card to
perform electronic holds on resources in the 18 partner libraries
and items will be couriered here for check out and can be checked
back in here as well.
Inter-Library Loan services: The Tribal Library partners with
Oregon State Library in offering “library to library” inter-library
loan services. By completing the inter-library loan form, library
patrons may request items from the Oregon State Library collec-
tion. OSL lending policies apply for return of items.
