2008 - Tribal Council pasHed a Tribal law guaranteeing the right
to work on the Grand Ronde Reservation without mandatory require
ments that employees join a labor union or pay dues, fees or other
financial support to a labor union.
2003 - A new pedestrian safety
sidewalk was installed in Grand
Ronde Tribal Elder's Housing.
The sidewalk is 752 feet long and
5 feet wide, and it is Americans
With Disabilities Act approved
with four access ramps.
1998 - Tribal Council voted to
change the name of the Tribal
newspaper back to Smoke Signals.
In addition, Tribal member Peter
Wakeland was announced as the
first Hatfield Fellow at a press
conference held at the Portland Hilton. x
1993 - Publications does not have a copy of the November 1993
Smoke Signals.
1988 - An estimated 300 Tribal members and friends of the Con
federated Tribes of Grand Ronde celebrated a new beginning on
Oct. 22 with the re-establishment of the Grand Ronde Reservation.
"I am confident, in every way, that the creation of this reservation
will contribute to an improved standard of living for the entire area,"
said Chairman Mark Mercier.

Elders schedule Community Bazaars
The Elders' Community Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fri
day, Nov. 8, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Spirit Mountain
Casino, and again from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
There also will be a Community Bazaar held in the Tribal gym from 9
to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16.

Education offers Chinuk Wawa classes
The Tribe's Cultural Education Department offers adult Chinuk
Wawa language classes from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday
in Room 207 in the Tribal Adult Education Building.
Language classes can be taken for college credit or fun.

Socktoberfest collecting
footwear through Nov. 22
The annual Socktoberfest is under way and is asking people to bring new
socks to the donation box in the lobby of the Youth Education building.
Donations will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 22.
All donated socks will be delivered to the Grand Ronde Clothing Closet
during Thanksgiving Day week. The new socks will be distributed to those
locally in need. Socks needed are work socks, sports socks, kids' socks and
warm socks. Past Socktoberfests have collected more than 250 pairs. For more
