Available scholarships: Several $500-1,500 scholarships . '
Application Requirements: Preference will be given to Native law
students attending a law school in one of the states served by NIBA and
law students enrolled in a Tribe from one of the states served by NIBA
who are attending a law school outside of that service area.' " '. '
An applicant must be admitted to an accredited law school and intend
to work in the field of American Indian or Alaska Native law or policy
in one of the states served by NIBA.
Applicants must submit the following: 1) A completed scholarship
application form. 2) A resume. 3) Two letters of recommendation (need
not be originals; copies of recent letters submitted for law school admis
sion, other scholarships or internships are acceptable). 4) A copy of an
admission statement from an accredited law school. 5) Proof of Tribal
enrollment or affiliation. If not available, students may submit attached
declaration.

each year. The majority of scholarships for fall termsemester are due between
January and April of each year. Don't miss your chance to apply for FREE
money for college! The Tribal Higher Education programs are here to assist you
in your application process. You also can utilize a scholarship search engine to
help you locate scholarships. If you use a scholarship search site, be sure to read
the privacy policy to ensure you are using a site that will not sell your contact

New Library Program: The following program will be offered
monthly through December:
Native American Movie Night: First Thursday of the month at 6
p.m. (Youth under 13 must be accompanied by parents). Limited
seating.
Nov. 7: "Smoke Signals," authored by Sherman Alexie.
Dec. 5: "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," based on Dee Brown
' book. '
The Art Conspiracy is sponsoring the annual Coastal Hills
- Student Art Show and Sale that will be held Nov. 8 and 9
at the West Valley Community Center. This event is held in
conjunction with the Willamina Coastal Art Tour event. Students
in kindergarten to college age may enter up to three pieces of
artwork and at least two of the pieces must be for sale. The Art
Conspiracy takes 10 percent of sales and donates the money to the
. , local Food Bank. Artwork must be matted. Matting assistance is
available at the West Valley Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 6, for a small fee. Work may be submitted at
the Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, and
Thursday, Nov. 7.
This year, local youth may submit their matted artwork at the
Tribal Library and library staff will submit the work to Art Con
spiracy. Artwork must be submitted by 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
6, in order for Tribal Library staff to submit the work in time for
the show and sale.
Donations: We appreciate the following contributors to the li
, brary collection during this reporting period: Our thanks to Matt
Bucknell and the K-5 Program, Eirik Thorsgard, Donna Johnson,
Keri Kimsey, Margo Ordaz, Devin Larsen, Chris Mercier, Kristy
DeLoe, Carol Nelson, Tammy Cook, Shasta and Sequhia Simmons
and Matilde Correa. Donated items have been catalogued and are
shelved for circulation; they are great additions to the collection.
Reminder: Donations must be clean; no cassettes, VHS or mass
produced paperback books please.
Reminder: The Tribal Library is a CCRLS Circulation Site: Use
your Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Services library
card to perform electronic holds on resources in the 18 partner
libraries and items will be couriered here for check out and can be
checked back in here, too.
Reminder: Inter-Library Loan Services: The Tribal Library
partners with Oregon State Library to offer "library to library" inter-library
loan services. By completing the inter-library loan form,
library patrons may request items from the Oregon State Library
collection. OSL lending policies apply for return of items.
New Culture Exhibit in the Tribal Library: This exhibit
features basketry representative of each of the five Grand Ronde
Tribes as well as a photo and basket display of contemporary basket
weavers. Our thanks go to Julie Brown and Veronica Montano for
this awesome exhibit.
In November, the Tribal veterans video will play on the big
screen TV in the library from Nov. 4-15 in recognition of our Tribal
veterans and the Veterans Day holiday. Thank you, veterans, for
your service to our country and for protecting our freedoms.
