Chlnuk Wawa - Speaking Our Language
There has been a resurgence of Interest In learning our
language, chlnuk wawa, which Tribal programs have been
making an effort to support. We actively support language
learning for all age groups, from pre-iehool through
adulthood. .'.. ; '
Working together, the Land & Culture and Education
Departments currently offer chlnuk wawa Immersion classes
for pre-school through 2M grade, weekly classes through the
K-5 Program, and other language classes and activities through
the Youth Education program, In addition, Wlllamlna High
School students can take chlnuk wawa et their school for
college credits from Lane Community College.

During the school year, the general community also can
receive Lane Community College credits for taking chlnuk
wawa through Grand Ronde evening classes or through
Eastern Oregon University online classes. Year-round, community members can take chlnuk wawa
classes In Portland, Grand Ronde, or Eugene. There Is a class specifically taught for parents of children
In the pre-school through 2" grade Immersion classes. A recent addition to the language class schedule
Is the weekly noontime class, offered on Wednesdays,
Planning Is underway to develop new
chlnuk wawa learning aids. An audio
; series, a video series, or a phone
application could be especially useful
