Employee Appreciation Barbecue at the Youth Education Building
on Thursday, Sept. 1 9. Working with him on the prize drawings are

Canoe Family wins four
awards at Coquille races

The Grand Ronde Tribe brought home four first-place awards at this
year's 10th annual Traditional Dugout Canoe Race held during the Mill
Luck Salmon Celebration and Canoe Races sponsored by the North Bend
based Coquille Indian Tribe on Sept. 13-14.
The Tribe has been a big winner at the races, which take place in the
bay by the Tribe's Mill Casino, year after year.
This year's competitors included teams from the Confederated Tribes of
Grand Ronde, Coquille Indian Tribe, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs
and the Coos, Lower Umpqua & Siuslaw Indians.
This year's first-place awards came in the Co-Ed, Youth, Women's and
Men's races.
The Grand Ronde Canoe Family practices once a week during the sum
mer and has become a strong youth group, say local supporters of the
Canoe Family.
Participants from Grand Ronde included:
StaffChaperones: Dave Fullerton (Social Services Manager), Shannon
Stanton (Youth Prevention Assistant), Santiago Atanacio (Youth Preven
tion College Intern), Kimberly Roybal (Youth Prevention College Intern),
Lisa Archuleta (Portland Area Office Tribal Service representative) and
Bobby Mercier (Cultural Outreach Specialist);
Youth: Shantell Ulestad, Izaiah Fisher, Anthony Simmons, Goldie Bly
(Senior Miss Grand Ronde, 2013-14), Susun Fisher (Senior Miss Siletz,
2013-14), Cheyenne Simmons, Tessa Simmons, Tara Thorsgard, Aspen
Wilson, Madison Ross, Dakota Ross and Grayson Winters.
Adults other than staff: Tammy Fisher, Jeff Flagg, Alice Martineau,
Joe Martineau, Sara Ross, Dustin Ross and Joe Hostler. O
Clean Eating Forums return
Clean Eating Forums will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 14, Nov.
18 and Dec. 16 in the Elders' Activity Center.
There will be healthy foods, prizes and information to share.
