Tribe creates Enrollment Audit hotline
The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde has created an Enroll
ment Audit hotline with which to collect frequently asked questions
from the Tribal membership.
The goal of the hotline is to develop a list of commonly asked
questions regarding the audit information that was distributed in
the April Tilixam Wawa. The answers to those questions will be
published in an upcoming Tilixam Wawa, as well as be distributed
to the membership in an information packet.
Please ask general questions only; please do not leave personal
inquiries regarding yourself or family.

Help needed identifying plots
The Facilities Department is asking for your help identifying veteran's
plots. If your family member's or friend's plot is a veteran and we do not
have a veteran's flag present on holidays, please inform us.
We will do our best to mark all plots of veterans.

Ceremonial Hunt Board meets as needed. Chair: Shonn Leno.
Cultural Trust Board meets at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month
in Modular No. 2. Chair: Perri McDaniel.
Culture Committee meets at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month
in the Land & Culture Department conference room. Acting Chair: Betty
Bly.
Education Committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the first Monday of the
month in the Adult Education Building. Chair: Tammy Cook.
Elders' Committee meets at 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month
in the Elders' Activity Center. Chair: Gladys Hobbs.
Enrollment Committee meets quarterly in Room 204 of the Governance
Building. Chair: Sharon Hanson.
Fish & Wildlife Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of

Council OKs agreement with
Polk County Sheriff's Office

Tribal Council approved an annu
al agreement with the Polk County
Sheriffs Office for enhanced law
enforcement service in the Grand
Ronde area at its May 8 meeting.
Tribal Council Chairman Reyn
Leno said it is the Tribe's annual
agreement funded through Spirit
Mountain Community Fund.
The $405,000 public safety grant
was awarded three months ago,
said Spirit Mountain Community
Fund Director Kathleen George.
In other action, Tribal Council:
Approved applying for a $52,000
Oregon Youth Development
Council Youth Gang Preven
tion & Intervention Grant that
would require the Tribe to pro
vide $13,000 in matching funds
and pay $3,102 in indirect cost.
Approved applying for a $35,000
Cultural Development Grant from
the Oregon Cultural Trust and
authorizing $35,000 in matching
Tribal funds.
Approved applying to the Oregon
Health Authority for an Outreach
& Enrollment grant.
Approved issuing a Tribal credit
card to Tribal Council Executive
Coordinator Stacia Martin for use
in the performance of her duties.
Adopted a resolution for the
Behavioral Health Department
to participate in the Northwest
Portland Indian Health Board
"Response Circles" sexual assault
prevention project.
Also included in the May 8 Tribal
Council packet was an authoriza
tion to proceed that allows staff to
access $4,070 from contingency to
pay for a tent to be used during the
Veterans Summit and Marcellus
Norwest Memorial Veterans Pow
wow at Uyxat Powwow Grounds in
early July.

2008 - The fourth major expan
sion of Spirit Mountain Casino
opened. The expansion included
the new Cedar Plank Buffet
and a 1,800-seat Events Center.
Entertainment during the grand
opening weekend included blues
great Curtis Salgado, comedian
Dana Carvey and rock band
Blues Traveler.
2003 The Hall of Legends, which connects Spirit Mountain Ca
sino to Spirit Mountain Lodge, was scheduled to be remodeled. The
hall will be changed to a walk-through display area showcasing the
history and culture of the Grand Ronde Tribes.
1998 - Tribal Executive Officer Francis Somday and Finance Of
ficer Pat Mercier announced that they would be leaving the Tribe
to pursue other interests and career opportunities.
1993 - Honorary Court participants included Erica Empey, Maria
Godinez, Valerie Haller, Brittany Grout, Allison Empey, Emma
Leno and Kristy DeLoe.
1988 Oregon Attorney General Dave Frohnmayer declined to
draft a ballot title for a proposed initiative petition dealing with the
Grand Ronde Tribes. Written by Sheridan resident William Jolley,
the proposed petition stated, "Shall the Confederated (Indian) Tribes
of Grand Ronde, Oregon (all U.S. citizens) be awarded a new tax
free reservation, special hunting, fishing and trapping rights and
sovereign immunity in the state of Oregon without a vote of the
people?" Frohnmayer said the proposal was not a valid exercise of
initiative power because it only asked an advisory question and did
not propose legislation.
