This year's theme is "Dig into Reading." This is the Collaborative Regional Library Theme that will be used by libraries across the nation this year. The library will host the Reading Incentive Program, weekly activity stations and two theme activity sessions. Promotion for the summer programs began on Saturday, April 27, at the annual Healthy Families event sponsored by Tribal programs on campus and at the gym. Reading Incentive Program: Registration is required. Registra tion is open April 27 through June 15. Applications are available at ,the Library. Reading Incentive is for ages 4 to 17. Participants earn a "book buck" for each book read at their reading level and they can enter a drawing for other prizes. The Library Book Buck Store will open on July 15 and be open until the program ends on July 31 for youth to spend their book bucks. Activity Stations: Theme-related activities and displays will be set up in the library. The theme will change each week of the six week program and will feature: 1. Animals the Dig; 2. Root Gardens; 3. Archeology for Kids; 4. Fossil Finds; 5. Rock On; 6. And Tracing our Roots. Activity Sessions: Sessions will be held on Saturday, June 29 and July 13, from noon to 2 p.m. June 29: "Digging Up the Past"; All ages welcome (12 and under must have adult supervision). July 13: "Digging for Treasure"; All ages welcome (12 and under must have adult supervision). Library Cultural Exhibit: A cultural exhibit will be assembled in the Library on June 3-5 that displays Tribal Museum artifacts. The exhibit items will complement the Summer Program theme, "Dig into Reading." Cultural Exhibits and Archive staff Julie Brown and Veronica Montano will assemble the exhibit. Opening of the exhibit will occur on the evening of June 6 at the annual Education Division Summer Kick-off event held at the education facilities. Resignation: The Library's reference librarian, Chris Mansayon, has resigned his position to accept a full-time position at Western Oregon University's Library. We wish Chris the best in his new position and will miss having him here at our library. The Tribal Library will no longer offer the one-on-one computer instruction sessions on Thursday afternoons that Chris facilitated.
