Tribe holding Memorial
Day event on May 27
The annual Grand Ronde Memo
rial Day observance will start at 1
p.m. Monday, May 27, at the West
Valley Veterans' Memorial on the
Grand Ronde Tribal campus.
The West Valley Veterans' Me
morial was created by Tribal El
der, Vietnam veteran and current
Tribal Council member Steve Bobb
Sr. In features four black columns
representing the major branches of
the Armed Forces - Army, Navy,
Air Force and Marines.
The names of Tribal and nonTrib
al residents from the West Valley
area who have served in the mili
tary are etched into the columns as
a reminder of the sacrifice all who
serve in the military make for their
country.
More names will be added this
year and those veterans will be
honored on Memorial Day. More
than 2,250 names are currently
engraved on the memorial.
Grand Ronde's annual Memorial
Day observance also will feature
the Tribal Veterans' Honor Guard
and an invocation. Tribal Council
Chair Reyn Leno, also a Vietnam
era Marine veteran, will be the
master of ceremonies.
Starting at noon in the nearby
Tribal Community Center, the
Grand Ronde Tribe and its guests
will enjoy a community meal fea
turing ceremonial meat.

Yamhill County seeking
volunteer drivers
Yamhill County is seeking volunteer drivers to transport local veterans
to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland.
Volunteers are unpaid, but a meal is provided for their time.
