spent $20.7 million on the Tribal
member health plan in 2007, or an
average of $-1,45-1 per enrolled mem
ber, during the April General Council
meeting held in Kugene.
2003 - Actress Klaine Miles from
the TV series "Northern Kxposure"
spoke to Tribal youth during the
Tribe's first-ever Wellness Day. Originally from Pendleton, Miles is
Cayuse-Nez Perce and a member of the Umatilla Tribe.
1998 - A public hearing concerning Senate Bill 1691 was held in
Seattle on April 7. The bill, sponsored by Washington Sen. Slade
Gorton, called for waiver of Tribal sovereign immunity. Tribal mem
bers and advocates of sovereign immunity traveled long distances to
protest the proposed bill.
1993 Spirit Mountain Development Corporation moved into its
new headquarters at 28840 Salmon River Highway. The building
was renovated and staff had been busy organizing the office space.
An open house was going to be scheduled for sometime in April.
1988 - A potluck was scheduled in the Tribal office to remember the
hop yard years. "Come and share memories and your photographs,"
an ad in Smoke Signals said.

Spirit Mountain Casino is inviting Grand Ronde Tribal member
artists to submit their original, artistic creations to be purchased
for the Rock Creek Court.
This request is open to Grand Ronde Tribal members only. Pieces
submitted for consideration must be the Tribal members' own cre
ation and suitable for public display.
A completed copy of the Request for Proposal (RFP) can be ob
tained by contacting the Casino's Purchasing Department as listed
below:

Notice to Tribal member construction,
contractors and workers
The Tribe is developing a list of Tribal member-owned construc
tion companies and workers with road construction experience who
are interested in performing construction work for the Tribe and on
Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) projects. The Tribe is
negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ODOT to
provide hiring preference to Tribal members, those with construction
companies and individuals with construction experience to work on
various ODOT road construction projects.
Tribal members seeking employment in the construction field please
contact Steve O'Harra by calling 503-879-2113 or via e-mail steve.
oharraifrgrandronde.org. Please provide your name, enrollment num
ber, phone number, type of work sought (unskilled laborer, concrete,
paving, etc.) and any special skills or experience you may have. The
Human Resources Department will assemble a list of interested per
sons that will be distributed to ODOT. This list also will be distributed
to general contractors selected to do work on Tribal projects.

wish to be included on this list are requested to call John Mercier at
