Where: Pacific University, Forest Grove Campus
Girls Gather for Computer Science is a non residential summer
camp for 7th and 8th grade girls.
The camp will be run by female instructors including university
faculty, teachers recruited from local middle schools, and unde
graduate computer science students. The camp includes field
trips to companies such as Intel and Vernier Software & Techno
logy. THIS CAMP IS FREE! This includes public transportation to and
from Pacific University, food, field trips, and an overnight stay in
Seattle. This is a day camp only and there will be no sessions on
weekends or on the 4th of July. The camp will last for four
weeks, June 17 to July 12, 2013. The camp runs dairy from 9:30
a.m. to 3:30 p m., depending on bus schedules. Participants are
epected to attend all four weeks of the camp. There will be two
parent-student evening meetings: an orientation on Sunday,
June 16 (Fathers Day) and a closing presentation on Friday, July
12.
Eligibility
Thirty girls who are currently in 7th or 8th grade will be selected
based on teacher recommendations and interest in Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Due Dates
Applications are due by Wednesday, February 13, 2013.

Get Fired Up For Reading: 67 Books Read so far (by Jan.
24) Help us build a dragon at the Tribal Library by reading books.
For each book read you can add a scale that has your name and book
title on it to our dragon. We want to get a least 100 books read by
Feb. 25, the last day of Chinese New Year Celebration 2013. This
reading initiative is open to all agesreaders. The more you read,
the bigger our dragon gets.
Library Volunteer Recruitment: The Tribal Library has two
volunteer positions available. Volunteer duties include general
library and collection maintenance and working on special proj
ects. An application, screening and orientation are required before
volunteer placement. Applications are available at the library. If
you are interested and have at least two hours per month that you
can commit to working in the library, please apply. Recruitment
is open through Feb. 28.

you all; your donated items have been cataloged and are shelved
for circulation. They are great additions to the collection.

Interpersonal Basic Computer Skills Tutorials
Beginning Thursday, Feb. 7, and on Thursdays from then on, the
Tribal Library will offer personal learning tutorials on a number
of computer-related topics to interested individuals. This month's
training will focus on the very basics of computer usage and is a
good way for those with very little or no knowledge of computers to
be introduced to the technology. This presentation will cover:
Identification of common computer parts;
Nuances of using the mousekeyboard;
How to properly turn the computer onoff;
Elements of the desktop screen;
And how to navigate basic Windows & find programs.
The presentation portion will last about 20 minutes, after which
further questions can be answered or topics reviewed and clarified.
2 and 4 p.m. time slots are available but are limited to a maximum
of two people per tutorial, so sign-up is first-come, first-served.
