2007 - Tribal Council members Steve Ikibb Sr., Chris Mercier and
Wink Soderberg attended the 10th Tribal-State Summit held at Kah-nee-ta
High Desert Kesort and Casino in Warm Springs. The event provided
state officials, including Gov. Ted Kulongoski, a chance to interact with
representatives from Oregon's nine federally recognized Tribes.
2002 - The Tribe's Behavioral Health Department successfully re
ceived its second certification. A Drug and Alcohol Certification was
awarded in May 2001 and the department received its Mental Health
Certification from three credentialing agencies Indian Health Service,
state of Oregon and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health
('are.
1997 - The Tribe celebrated 14 years of Restoration. The festivities
included a meal, historical displays, blessing of the Sacred Hide created
by don A. George and a mini powwow. Speakers included Marvin Kimsey,
Margaret I'rovost and Tribal Council Chair Kathryn Harrison.
1992 Indian Health Service honored Cheryle A. Kennedy as the
Outstanding Portland Area Tribal Health Administrator. Kennedy was
the Grand Konde representative on the Native American Indian Health
Hoard in the Portland area and had worked for the Grand Ronde Health
Department for eight years.
1987 - A former Chinook Indian village on Sauvie Island was surveyed
by archaeologists. They found a seal's tooth, charred acorn, hazelnut
shells and wapato, bones from a variety offish, birds and game, obsidian
flakes, and cedar and choke cherry shavings. The site would be one of
Oregon's most important "wet" sites, meaning the artifacts are buried
in water or mud.
Yesteryears is a look back at Tribal history in five-year incre

Tribal Council member Stave Bobb Sr. shakes hands with a Willamina
Middle School student as she thanks him for his service and his
participation in Veterans Visit Day at the school on Friday, Nov. 1 6.
For the event, veterans who served in various wars came to speak
to the students about their time and experiences in the military.
Along with sharing his own story about serving in the Marines Corps
during the Vietnam War, Bobb also focused on Native Americans and
their high participation numbers in the military, particularly the
enlistment of Grand Ronde members.
