Invitation to Tribal member vendors
2013 Gathering of Oregon's
First Nations Annual Powwow
The five federally-recognized Western Oregon Tribes the Confed
erated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, Coquille
Indian Tribe, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Confeder
ated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and Confederated
Tribes of Siletz Indians will host the fifth annual Gathering of
Oregon's First Nations Powwow at the State Fairgrounds Pavilion
in Salem, Ore., on Jan. 26, 2013. Eastern Oregon Tribes also will
participate.
Tribal members from the five Western Oregon Tribes will have an
opportunity to secure vendor tables before they are open to the Na
tive American public.
Once the tables are open to the Native American public, it is antici
pated that they will be completely filled by the next day.
The Fabulous Five Committee wanted to make sure vendors from
the five Tribes were given this opportunity to secure a table.
Tables are $50 per vendor with each vendor being allowed two tables.
Sorry, no food vendors.
The first year's attendance was estimated at 5,000 and last year we
had approximately 3,000 people attend. Cutoff for this special offer to
Tribal members only is Nov. 2, 2012, at noon. After that any tables
left will be open to the Native American public.
Vendors must provide their own transportation and lodging along
with the vendor registration fee.
If you do not have enough merchandise or want to split the cost
with other Tribal members, that is allowable. However, organizing
the combining of resources will be up to the individuals interested in
doing so. If you decide to combine resources, please appoint one person
to be in charge of your vendor table.
If you are interested, please drop by the Public Affairs Office, 9615
Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde, Ore. 97347, or call 503-879-1418
for more information and to obtain an application.
Cultural Trust Board
seeking grant applicants
The Tribe's Cultural Trust Board received $6,359 for the 2013
grant year and is now accepting grant applications through Dec.
15.
The board will finalize grant awards by Jan. 10 and applicants will
receive notification of their grant application status by Jan. 15.
This is the earliest the board has ever opened the grant cycle to
allow more time for grantees to complete their cultural projects
since final reporting is due to the Oregon State Cultural Trust
each year by Aug. 31.
Since 2009, when the Grand Ronde Cultural Trust Board started
giving cultural grants, it has funded individuals' participation in
Tribal Canoe Journey, sewing classes, moccasin making classes, an
ethno botany project, a Chinuk Wawa project, research for a book
about Tribal member families, camas digging, huckleberry picking,
regalia making, wood carving and other cultural projects.
Cultural Trust Board Chair Perri McDaniel and board member
Kim Contreras will facilitate a "How to Apply for a Grand Ronde
Cultural Trust Grant" workshop on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Attendees should bring their cultural project idea for a Cultural
Trust grant to the workshop to see if it is within the guidelines of
the grant making program.
To sign up for the workshop, send an e-mail to committee.cul
turegrandronde.org. Grant applications will be available at the
front desk of the Governance Center building or via e-mail upon
request.
Grand Ronde Cultural Trust Board members include McDaniel,
Contreras, Vice Chair Betty Bly, Secretary Stephanie Wood and
board member Claudia Leno.
