New Oregon tuition waiver House Bill 3471-Tuition Waiver Bill is a new law that gives "tuition waivers" to current and former foster youth for Oregon community college and public universities. This program begins with the 2012-13 academic year. Requirements: All current foster and former foster youth who have spent at least 365 days in substitute care after age 16, AND either left foster care (had wardship terminated) or completed high schoolGED within the previous three years qualify for this program. Application process: Students must submit their FAFSA (www. fafsa.gov) as soon as possible! DHS and ICW will send a list of eligible students to the Oregon Student Access Commission for prioritization of an Oregon Opportunity Grant. The school of attendance will be notified of eligible students attending their institution and notify the student of the tuition waiver amount. There is no separate application or steps for students to apply other than submitting their FAFSA. Collaborative Events: We have teamed with the Sheridan and ' Willamina public libraries to host several evening sessions to be held ' - at each of the libraries in September, October and November. The first -session will be hosted by the Tribal Library on Thursday, Sept. 6, from IS to 7:30 p.m. It will be a "Meet and Greet" your local library ' ; staff.: Sheridan, Willamina and Tribal Library staff will be present J; to share information about their respective libraries. . The Sheridan Public Library will host a Tribal History presentation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Some artifacts and collection photos will . be on display. The Tribe's Cultural Resources Department staff will present information and be available for questions and answers. The program is being sponsored in collaboration with the Tribal Library and the Willamina Public Library. The Wwamina Public Library will host an event in October and then we will host another event in November. Watch the library articles for a calendar of events. New CCRLS seirvOce Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service and the Grand Ronde Tribal Library will partner in a new project to provide ac cess to CCRLS material through the Grand Ronde Tribal Library. Patrons will need to have a basic or full service library card from a member library in CCRLS. With this card they can request material from any CCRLS library to be sent for pick up at the Grand Ronde Tribal Library. When finished with, the material can be returned to Grand Ronde. The Tribal Library is not becoming a member of CCRLS, and the circulation rules of the CCRLS library will apply. The service will be available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. Nearby CCRLS libraries are in Willamina, Sheridan, Dallas, McMinnville and Salem.
