Tha Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde was a sponsor of The Big Float in Portland on Sunday,
July 29. More than 1,400 people, left, paddled the Willamette River from the Marcum Bridge to
the Hawthorne Bridge to help demonstrate that parts of the Willamette River are clean enough
for public use. Tribal members, including Greg Archuleta, above right, staffed a Tribal booth
and taught Big Float attendees how to create beaded necklaces. Other Tribal members who
staffed the booth included Chelsea Clark, Justin Robinson, Jordan Mercier and Tribal Council
member Chris Mercier, as well as Tribal Public Affairs Director Siobhan Taylor. The Tribe also
hired Portland drum Turquoise Pride, below, to perform during the event, which occurred in the
Tribe's ceded homelands near the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
