Tribal Library Summer Programs:
Reading Incentive Program: We had 44 youth registered for the pro
gram and had 16 active readers. These 16 readers read 277 books over
the six-week period. Eleven readers completed the program by reading
10 or more books. Congratulations to all of our readers!
Theme Activity Sessions: Sessions were held on June 23 and July
14 for ages 5-12. We had three and five participants, respectively, in
each of the sessions. Youth learned about nocturnal animals and their
habits,' the stars, moon and planets, as well as making some creative
projects like bat puppets, owl window art, solar system models and
Native American moon calendars.
Sessions were scheduled on July 5 and 26 for ages 13-17, but we did
not have any participants for those sessions.
Collaborative Events: We have teamed with the Sheridan and Wil
lamina public libraries to host several evening sessions at each of the
libraries in September, October and November. Dates will be confirmed
in the Sept. 1 issue of Smoke Signals. The first session will be hosted
by the Tribal Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6. This will
be a "meet and greet" your local library staff. Sheridan, Willamina and
Tribal Library staff will be present to share information about their
respective libraries. Other events will include presentations and some
demonstrations and hands-on activities at the different libraries. Watch
for the calendar of events in next issue.
Donations: We appreciate the following people for their contri
butions to the library collection during this reporting period: Jared
Nunley. Thanks Jared. Your donated books about hunting have been
cataloged and are shelved for circulation. Thank you for some great
additions to the collection.
New CCRLS service
Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service and the Grand
Ronde Tribal Library will partner in a new project to provide ac
cess to CCRLS material through the Grand Ronde Tribal Library.
Patrons will need to have a basic or full service library card from a
member library in CCRLS. With this card they can request material
from any CCRLS library to be sent for pick up at the Grand Ronde
Tribal Library. When finished with, the material can be returned
to Grand Ronde. The Tribal Library is not becoming a member of
CCRLS, and the circulation rules of the CCRLS library will apply.
The service will be available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to
noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. Nearby CCRLS libraries are in Willamina,
Sheridan, Dallas, McMinnville and Salem.
