Bend couple wins $578,1 75
jackpot at Spirit Mountain
A telephone support technician from
Bend, celebrating a long overdue honey
moon with his wife on their 13th wedding
anniversary, won $578,175 on Tuesday,
July 3, at Spirit Mountain Casino.
David Bowden Jr. and his wife, Amy,
arrived at Spirit Mountain Casino on
Monday night after saving up for a "de
layed honeymoon" and following a couple
of jackpots worth $700 and $1,200 hit the
big time on "The Dark Knight" Batman
progressive slot at 4:15 a.m. The big win
comes less than three months after a
Palm Springs, Calif., man hit a $568,668
jackpot on the same slot bank.
"My first reaction was, 'Is this for
real?'" said Bowden. "My wife didn't believe me at first, but then started
crying."
The Bowdens were making their first visit to Spirit Mountain after
reviewing the casino's Web site, which touts reasonable lodge room rates
and lists all of the slot game. They have lived in Bend for eight months,
moving to Oregon from Oklahoma.
Amy said they will do some traveling this summer with their two boys,
ages 10 and 5. "It will be nice to do a little traveling before the 5-year-old
starts kindergarten this fall," she said. "The boys were a little sore because
they wanted to come with us," David added.
David seemed to have fate on his side. He was wearing a Philadelphia
Eagles baseball cap and a green T-shirt featuring a leprechaun on the
front with the words "Feeling Lucky." B
