First Salmon Celebration

, The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon
will celebrate its inaugural First Salmon Celebration from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.
The event is being planned by the Tribal Culture Committee,
Cultural Resources Department and Natural Resources with as
sistance from the Public Affairs staff.
Tribal members are encouraged to attend.
The celebration will start at 10 a.m. at the Tribal Fish Weir on
Agency Creek near the Tribal campus on Grand Ronde Road and be
followed by a cedar planked salmon meal at the Tribal gym.
Representatives of the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife will
be special guests.
The Tribe will celebrate the return of salmon to Agency Creek. In
. 2010, the Tribe's Natural Resources personnel captured a record 995
Coho salmon returning to the Tribal Reservation, approximately 4.5
percent of all returning Coho in the Willamette Basin.

Zumba, an easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired and calorie-burning dance fit
ness party, is held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday in the
Tribal gymnasium. The first class is free and $6 thereafter for drop-ins, or
$5 if participants purchase a punch card. For more information, contact

Committee Summit set for Jan. 23
The 2012 Committee Summit will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday,
Jan. 23, in the Elders' Activity Center.
Committee members who plan to attend need to RSVP to Tribal Council
Executive Coordinator Brent Merrill at brent.merrillgrandronde.org by
Thursday, Jan. 12.
The breakfast will include bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, muffins,
fruit, coffee and juice.
