Dear Tribal Student,
Funding levels are determined by the amount of funding available
from Tribal resources. Over the past few years these resources have
flattened, yet we continue to see an increase in the number of students
accessing the Tribal Higher Education Program and tuition continues
to rise. In order to continue providing funding to students, the Tribal
Higher Education Program will be implementing several new changes
for the 201 1-12 academic year. As Education carefully developed these
changes we considered student funding needs, accessibility, equity and
maintaining program services. These changes will impact the level of
funding currently received through the Higher Education program.
Students who have currently been awarded a Competitive Scholar
ship will continue to receive funding as outlined in your scholarship
award notification. However, for 2012-13 the Competitive Scholarship
program will be dissolved no new scholarships will be available;
with the exception of the Eula Petite Scholarship one scholarship
will be offered annually for students seeking a bachelor's or master's
degree in Education.
Effective Fall TermSemester 201 1 students will be able to access one
of two programs (programs cannot be accessed simultaneously):
Full-Time College Program:
Students attending a two-year educational institute (community
college) full-time will receive up to $6,000 per academic year.
Students attending a four-year educational institute (collegeuniver
sity) full-time will receive up to $10,000 per academic year.
Students attending an educational institute in a full-time graduate
level program will receive up to $14,000 per academic year.
Part-Time College Program:
Students attending a two-year educational institute (community
college) part-time will receive up to $4,000 per academic year.
Students attending a four-year educational institute (university)
part-time will receive up to $6,000 per academic year.
Students attending a graduate level program part-time will receive
up to $8,000 per academic year.
These changes will allow the program to offer an expedited deadline
process 30 days prior to the beginning of the termsemester as defined
by your attending educational institute. Recognizing this notification is
not timely for this fall, the program will accept completed applications
from students seeking funding from the Full-Time College program
by submitting a completed application by Sept. 15, 2011. Subsequent
termsemester students will be required to submit a completed applica
tion 30 days prior to the beginning of the termsemester.

There are numerous scholarship opportunities offered for students to
apply to each year. The majority of scholarships for fall termsemester are
due between January and April of each year. Don't miss your chance to
apply for FREE money for college! The Tribal Higher Education programs
are here to assist you in your application process.
You can also utilize a scholarship search engine to help you locate schol
arships. If you use a scholarship search site, be sure to read the privacy
policy to ensure you are using a site that will not sell your contact infor

LIBRARY HOURS:
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Library staff is seeking input from Tribal and community mem
bers to determine if there is interest in being a member if a Friends
of the Library chapter is established. Please contact the library at
ext. 1488 to let staff know if you would like to be contacted to attend
an informational meeting if interest is generated. Thank you.
Seeking Photos of Tribal veterans: We would like to put
together an "Honoring Our Veterans" photo display in the Tribal
Library. We want to have as many of our Tribal veterans repre
sented as possible so we are asking for everyone's help in gathering
and sending in photos. Photos can be sent directly to the Library.
Please include name, branch and time of service for each person in
the photo. Due to limited space, please keep size to 5-by-7 inch for
individual photos and 8-by-10 inch for group photos. We would like
to get the display up before Veterans Day. Your help and participa
tion is appreciated in making this project a success.
Donations: We appreciate the following people for their contribu
tions to the library collection during this reporting period: Susan
Hofenbredl, Harley Mercier, Anthony Henry, Daniel and Brisen
Haug, USB Financial Services, Leslie Riggs and Lauri Smith. These
donated items have been cataloged and are shelved for circulation.
Thank you everyone for some great additions to the collection.
We had a very generous donation from Sharleen Craddit this
past month. Sharleen donated more than 400 DVDs to the Tribal
Library. Work is being done to get the DVDs prepped and cataloged.
New movies will be available weekly, but it will take a while to get
them all done. Thanks Sharleen!
Tiny Tots Program: This program will start back up on Sept.
12 at the Tribal Library at noon 1 p.m. Tiny Tots program is for
youth ages 1-3 and their parent, grandparent or caretaker. We will
read a story and do inter-active activities and then there is time for
family reading or to check out books.
Here after the program will be held on the first Monday of the
month at noon 1 p.m. as follows: Oct. 3, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5.
FULL-TIME STUDENT
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. All full-time students are required to file the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. A copy of the FAFSA and
Student Aid Report (SAR) must be submitted to the Tribal Education
Program.
2. All full-time students are responsible for having their grade reports
sent to the Higher Education Programs upon completion of each term
semester.
3. All full-time students must maintain a 2.00 GPA and successfully
complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per termsemester to remain
eligible for funding.
4. Full-time students who do not meet the minimum academic re
quirements will be placed on academic PROBATION. Students who
are placed on PROBATIONARY STATUS will not be awarded the
following term until they have provided a copy of their grade report
transcript.
NO AWARD WILL BE MADE UNTIL
GRADE REPORT
TRANSCRIPTS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED.
5. Failure to meet the minimum academic requirements during the
probationary termsemester will result in SUSPENSION.
6. Full-time students must notify the Higher Education Programs of
address, telephone and e-mail changes as soon as they occur.
9. Each year full-time students must sign a "Release of Information"
form allowing correspondence with the school of attendance regarding
financial aid, educational budget, attendance and grade reports.
10. Students who withdraw or do not complete a termsemester will
be required to reimburse the Higher Education Programs for funding
received for the termsemester.
