2006 Grand Ronde Tribal Chairwoman Cheryle A. Kennedy joined
33 other parties in signing an agreement supporting future plans for the
Clackamas River hydro project. Issues resolved in the agreement include
a plan for improved fish and wildlife protection along with provisions
for a number of recreational activities. The agreement with Portland
General Electric was to be submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory
Commission for approval.
2001 Artist Ann Murray was commissioned by the Grand Ronde
Tribal Housing Authority to paint murals for Elder housing. Her work
was done on the quadraplexes at Coyote, Beaver and Blue Jay courts,
and the triplex at Eagle Loop. Housing and Urban Development provided
the $8,000 commission for the project.
1996 Tribal Council members attended a Town Hall in Willamina
that featured Gov. John Kitzhaber, who was invited by Mayor Twila
Hill. Tribal Chairman Mark Mercier said that Tribal Council members
attended the meeting to make Kitzhaber and the community aware of
future plans and growth of the Tribe, including the pursuit of 7,000 acres
of original reservation lands.
1991 Tribal Enrollment Clerk Margo Mercier reported that member
ship now stands at 2,707 and Tribal Elders Ila Dowd and Nora Kimsey
were pictured at the grand opening of the Polk County Museum in Dal
las, where the Grand Ronde delegation displayed a set of baskets that
were made almost 100 years ago.
1986 Tribal Elder Eula Petite was teaching Chinook Jargon classes
at Grand Ronde Elementary School on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
She was offering 10 one-hour lessons in the Tribal language as part of
the Grand Ronde Title rV Indian Education Program.

Parents with children from newborn to 8 years of age are invited to
participate in "Make Parenting a Pleasure" classes to be held on six con
secutive Wednesdays from April 6 through May 11.
Classes will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Tribe's Adult Education
Building. Parents will learn stress strategies, tips for communicating
with babies and young children, facts about child development, discipline
techniques and ways to encourage positive behavior.
Dinner and child care will be provided.

Jan Michael Looking Wolf Reibach, Tribal member and Tribal Lands
Managar, performed an old Cherokee prayer song on his flute and said the
"One Heart" prayer to open the Oregon House of Representatives session
at the State Capitol building in Salem on Thursday, March 1 0. Reibach
was invited by Rep. Jim Weidner, the representative for the district where
Reibach lives in McMinnville, to open the session and he also gave him a
letter of commendation for his musical accomplishments.

Indian Community Development Block Grant
(ICDBG) Program Community Development Statement
Amendment Application
Tribal Council met and reviewed options for the best current use
of the Tribe's $500,000 Indian Community Development Block Grant
recreation facilities project B05SR4 10530. Based on information from
Tribal meetings and surveys and the recommendations of Tribal staff
Tribal Council is planning to amend the grant so it can be used to
construct a 2,432-square-foot Youth Activity Addition at the western
end of the Tribe's Youth Education Building. The space will allow for a
variety of activities that current facilities do not allow. The estimated
operating cost for the space is $16,920 a year. The Tribe's existing
match obligation is $167,000. The amendment is planned for the March
16, 201 1, Tribal Council meeting. Those wishing to comment on the

or write to him at 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde,
OR 97347-9712. Comments are needed by March 23, 2011, and those
received will be provided to Tribal Council and made available to the
U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
