Recycle center moves
The Recycle Center has been moved temporarily to 9675 Grand Ronde.
Road. (The Curl Property next to Procurement). We will leave it open every
day, as long as there isn't any personal garbage or other materials (couches,
mattresses, etc.) dumped there. We need everyone to take only recyclable
items to the center. THE RECYCLE CENTER IS NOT A DUMP. Thank
you for doing your part to keep this service available to our community. For

Officer Rodney Ferguson said the
casino's easternmost parking lot,
used primarily for recreational
vehicles, is closed because of the
museum's damage.
"We actually have an RV lot over
there that we haven't used since the
museum suffered damage from the
snow storm," Ferguson said.
"We didn't feel it was safe enough.
We moved all RV traffic to the west
side of the (casino) building. We
don't want to subject any of our
guests to any kind of Hazard."
Austin bought the 6.77-acre prop
erty in 1984. The 240-by- 100-foot
barn still holds rusted hulls of old
autos. Its northwest roof corner
collapsed in December under the
weight of the snow and ice.
"It actually had an implosion; the
roof went in and walls went out,"
Austin said. "It's standing, and I
believe it to be sound."
Spirit Mountain Casino officials
brought the state of the building to
the attention of Polk County code
enforcement officials in January.
Ferguson said that the museum
property would be valuable to the
casino, but that no formal, seri
ous talks of purchasing it have
occurred.
"It's contiguous with the rest of
the property we have," Ferguson
said. "So it would definitely add
value to the casino. We could utilize
(the property) if acquired at a fair
price."
Polk County scheduled a Jan.
5 court date with Austin and his
attorney, Norman Hill, to address
a timeline for the building's repair
and compliance.
Doyle said that the court date
could be avoided if county building
officials and Austin's engineers can

ing official will provide a list of
options for Austin to undertake
in order to render the building in
