Dear Tribal members:
Tribal Council elections for 2009 have concluded and Toby McClary, Val
Sheker and I were elected for three-year terms.
Thank you to all who voted during this election and I especially appreciate
those who supported and encouraged me throughout the campaign period.
Campaigning is hard work and all the candidates did a tremendous job
in running for office. I will congratulate every candidate for the effort and
interest in wanting to lead our Tribe.
I will continue to work on issues that are important to the membership
and work to establish our sovereignty as a nation. I am most grateful for
my family, who stood with me and helped fashion my beliefs, character
and strong cultural ways during my formative years. It has truly proven
to be a cornerstone for my leadership ability.
I look forward to serving in my Tribal Council role and leading the Tribal
Council as the chairwoman.
God bless my people.

Dear Smoke Signals:
As a frequent guest of Spirit Mountain Casino, I like to read Smoke
Signals.
Your recent article on stopping smoking in Tribal casinos was of personal
interest. I was a hardcore smoker for 38 years. Then quit 10 years ago.
There are many non-smokers who play in the main casino. They, as well
as my husband and I, hate a smoker sitting next to them after investing
several hundred in a machine.
You would (the casino) save lots of money on cleanup and ashtrays by
moving smokers into a non-smoking room. Then have the rest of the casino
be smoke-free.
I was a guest on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and had a snit match with a hostile
smoker blowing smoke in my face. I had lots of money in the machine. She
took offense at my waving the smoke away. My husband thought she was
going to hit me. She lost her $5 and then left.
Granted, this was an isolated incident. Most smokers are more consid
erate. So much for my two cents.
