Food preservation update
scheduled in McMinnville
Home gardening is popular this summer, and many families may be
wondering how to safely preserve all those extra vegetables and fruits.
While food preservation has long been considered a home art, in order to
safely preserve food, science and research play an important role. Food
that has been preserved by using old, unsafe practices can put family
members at risk for serious food-borne illnesses. Using current updated
methods and processing times can help ensure a safe product. A food
preservation update and overview sponsored by Oregon State University
Extension Service and the Family Food Education Volunteer program is
scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Yamhill
County Public Works Auditorium adjacent to the OSU Extension Service
office, 2050 Lafayette St., in McMinnville. The class is free and advance
registration is suggested. To register, call the OSU Extension Service office
at 503-434-7517 or for more information contact Debra Minar Driscoll at
503-602-2651. Those interested can also register by sending an electronic
message to debra.driscolloregonstate.edu. B
