Families of students with disabilities
Does your child's behavior affect their learning or the learning of other children
in the classroom? In this workshop you will learn about the ABC's of behavior,
functional behavioral assessments and writing positive behavioral intervention
plans as part of the IEP. Leah Skipworth of the Oregon Parent Training and
Information Center will be in the Willamina Elementary School on Wednesday,
Aug. 26 from 11:30 am to 1 p.m. The topic of discussion is "Understanding
the I.E.P. Process." All interested parents and teachers are invited to attend.
Lunch will be served. Subjects covered will be "who can and can't receive these
services" and "The recommendation and acceptance process."

Applications for incoming K-5th students can be picked up at the Youth
Education Building beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17.
Applications must be turned in to Toni Mercier at Youth Education by 5
p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
Eligibility requirements state that parent(s)guardian(s) must be in school,
working or in a training program for a student to participate.
Space is limited and the program is open to Tribal, descendent and Native
American students in Willamina Elementary School, with a preference given
to enrolled CTGR youth.

LIBRARY HOURS:
Monday Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
(closed Monday - Friday: noon - 1 p.m.)

Library statistics in July 2009: 10 library cards were issued; 588
patron visits; 400 circulations; 27 donations and 158 computer sign-ins
during the 23 la days of service. Summer programs ended July 31.
Get Creative Express Yourself at Your Library Program:
Participants enjoyed learning about the Arts in the story and activ
ity sessions this year. Some of our projects included paper crafts,
learning about music and instruments, printmaking, growing a
windowsill garden and making duct tape wallets. This was a fun
theme to work in the summer program.
Reading Incentive Program: We had some great readers this
summer ranging in ages from 4 to 15 years old. Certificates of
Achievement, were earned by Kiona Campbell, Hunter Campbell,
Brisen Haug, Josh Henry, Ashley Mercier, Mason Mercier, Moses
Mercier, Kaleb Reid, Tiffany Tonso and Noah Torres. Congratula
tions readers! Other awards went to Kiona Campbell for Reading
the most minutes and to Kaleb Reid for reading the most books.
Great job, Kiona and Kaleb!
"Tiny Tots" Program: Sessions will resume in October and are
held the first Monday of each month. Next session is Oct. 5, 2009
from noon -.1 p.m. in the library. This program is for. parents,
grandparents and or caregivers of babies 0 to 3 years old. Please
join in this fun new program!
Summer Youth Employee: Peter Nelson's Library Aide position
ended on July 31. Peter did a great job working in the Library this
summer. Accomplishments include: .
Reading one book each week (5) and writing a book review for
each title. Peter posted the reviews in the Library and at Youth
Education and also compiled a Book Rave pamphlet that is avail
able in the library; . I . .; ..,
Promoted and coordinated a Teen Photo Contest that resulted in
14 entries. Entries with their award ribbon are displayed in the
library through August;
Assisted with collection weeding, maintenance, circulations and
cataloging; and
Conducted research and collected recommended titles to add to
the library collection in the Young Adult section. Peter compiled
title lists and researched costs of each title.
Peter did a lot of work and he did quality work. Peter has a great
work ethic and performed duties professionally. I appreciate the
opportunity to work with Peter this summer. Thanks Peter!
Collection donations: Our appreciation goes to the following
people who donated collection items to the Tribal Library the past
couple of months. Our thanks to Jo Towers, Charlene McMannis,
Mick McFayden, K-5 Program, Chris Shoop-Lockett, Margo Mercier,
Curtis Wright and Kathy Soderberg for donations in June and to
Veronica Gaston, David Rice, Ali Holsclaw, Betty Lambert, Chris
Mercier and Elaine Lane for donations in July.
