Percy "Gunny" Brandon is presented a Pendleton blanket by Tribal Elder
Steve Rife, left, and Jim Willis, director of the Oregon Department of
Veterans' Affairs, right, during the Veterans' Powwow on Saturday, July 11 .
Dear Smoke Signals:
I was honored by the Powwow Committee at the Veterans' Powwow
on July 11, 2009, for my years as a Marine and my support of my fellow
veterans since my retirement because of my wounds. I was wounded six
times in Vietnam and awarded four Purple Hearts.
I was honored with a white Spirit Mountain collection robe and will
honor the robe to my brothers, John and Gary, both Navy; brother, Bill,
Air Force; and my brother Howard, a Marine who was killed in World
War II on March 9, 1945.
All five of us joined the service from Grand Ronde.

Dear Tribal members:
I, and members of my family, have created an online "gathering place"
for those of us who are Grand Ronde Tribal members, and for those who
have ancestral roots with the Grand Ronde Tribe even though they are
not enrolled for various reasons.
The "gathering place" is a Web site called "Grand Ronde On Line," or
"GROLT for short. The Web site is hosted by MyFamily.com and has been
in operation since January 2004.
The GROL Web site is a place to post Grand Ronde news, history, photos
of Grand Ronde events and people, family trees, recipes, Tribal goals and
concerns, and more. Overall, the Web site is a place to just enjoy, while
knowing this is being done in a private, password-protected environ
ment. If you are interested in this "Grand Ronde On Line" gathering place,
please contact me at Leroy Goodcenl5752centurytel.net or 989-873-5191.
