plankhouse giveaway items
PER CAPITA NOTICE
June 12, 2009, is the proposed Per Capita Date for the
second quarterly payment. Members are not required
to do anything to receive this quarter's per capita dis
tribution. However, anyone wanting to change their
address should call Hollie Mercier at 503-879-2490 or
1-800-422-0232, ext. 2490.
Attention Tribal members
Copies of Legislative Action Committee recommendations are available
on the Tribal member side of the Tribal Web site. They are located with the
Legislative Action Committee minutes.
These forms are only a recommendation used by the Legislative Action
Committee to move discussion items to a regular Tribal Council meeting for a
vote of the Tribal Council. If you have any questions, please contact Dakota

In anticipation of an early fall opening of the Grand Ronde plankhouse,
the Tribe's Cultural Resources Department is seeking donations of giveaway
items for the planned blessing ceremony.
Giveaway items can be about almost anything, including beads and blan
kets, but not alcohol or drugs.
The items are intended to recognize people from outside the Grand Ronde
community who will come for the blessing ceremony.
"By having people from outside the community, they are helping to
strengthen our house," said Tribal member and Cultural Resources Protec
tion Coordinator Eirik Thorsgard.
Giveaway items can be dropped off at the Cultural Resources Department
in Grand Ronde or at the Tribal satellite offices in Eugene and Portland.

Royalty participants and their parent or sponsor must attend all re
quired events (powwows, parades, fundraisers, organizational meetings
and others). Absences can be prearranged with the Royalty Coordinator.
Three unexcused absences will result in disqualification from Royalty.
Royalty participants are expected to stay for the duration of the events.
This includes helping set up for events, such as meetings and parades, as
well as dancing during Grand Entry, InterTribals and staying until the
flags are retired unless pre-approved with the Royalty Coordinator. Par-

Participating in Royalty court is an excellent opportunity for Tribal girls and
young women to learn our traditions and powwow protocol. Participants
represent the Tribe by attending powwows and various community events.
We encourage all young woman ages 5-18 to join. Participants must pro
vide their regalia.
Serving on Royalty Court requires a considerable commitment from the
participant and her sponsor; travel, fundraisers, classes, and meetings are
required for all competing participants.

General Requirements:
1 . Enrolled Grand Ronde Tribal member
2. Must be alcohol and drug free

5. Attend school regularly and be in good standing
6. Sign and comply with Royalty Guidelines and Agreement
7. Must have one year of dancing experience and powwow

Why do you want to participate In Royalty? .
ticipants are expected to speak in front of large groups of people. Royalty
participants must be willing and able to dance. Remember: You are all
part of a team and are expected to treat yourselves, running mates
and others with respect at all times.
All interested must be able to meet the following guidelines in order to be
eligible for the Veterans' Royalty Court:
All must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand
Ronde.
Participant should have never been married and have no children. r.
All must be enrolled in and currently attending a public or private school.
All must be drug and alcohol free.
Must have one year of powwow experience.
Must have their own regalia, or be able to make their own regalia before the
application deadline. The participant must be willing and able to attend all
Veterans' events and be prepared to represent the Veterans and the Tribe.
Must have a parent or sponsor willing to participate and attend activities
with the giri and boy and provide transportation.
This year, there will be ONE Veterans' Royalty Queen and ONE Veterans'
Young Warrior.
