By Dean Rhodes
Smoke Signals editor
A veteran of successful theme parks, educational attractions and gaming
companies joined Spirit Mountain Casino in March as the new director
of marketing.
Allan E. Krantz, originally from Queens, N.Y., was named to the position
by Spirit Mountain Chief Executive Officer Rodney Ferguson.
Krantz started his career as the general sales manager for Six Flags
Theme park in Atlanta, Ga., in June 1972 and was eventually promoted
to director of corporate marketing.
He left Six Flags for a new kind of park when he accepted the director of
marketing position at Santa Anita Park, a horse track in Arcadia, Calif.
He said a highlight of his career was working closely with legendary jockey
Bill Shoemaker in the promotion of his final professional race.
Another highlight, Krantz said, was working with Alan Shepard and the
original Mercury Seven astronauts in the establishment of the U.S. Space
Camp and Astronauts Hall of Fame while he was working as director of
marketing at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala.,
Krantz then was senior director of marketing at the Isle of Capri Casino
in Lake Charles, La., from May 1995 to June 2001 followed by a position
as vice president of marketing for Alpha SmartParksWet 'n Wild from
July 2001 to June 2002 before moving back into the casino industry as the
director of marketing at Sycuan Resort and Casino in San Diego, Calif.,
where he remained for five years from May 2003 to May 2008.
Krantz has a bachelor's degree in business administration as well as a
master's of business administration-marketing from the University of Mi
ami. He and his wife of 35 years have two grown sons. His hobbies include
reading detectivemystery novels and taking daily walks.
"I'm excited to have Allan on board as part of our team to help elevate us
to the next level as the Northwest's premier entertainment destination," Fer
guson said. "Allan will play a key role in our current expansion plans, which
include the May 2009 opening of a new nightclub and sports bar." D
