High School Guys' Night
Since we missed last year's High School Guys' Night, we will be
making it up by staying out not one, but two nights! On Dec. 19-21,
2008, we will be renting yurts at Camp Dakota, which is located
in Scotts Mills, Ore. Our activities will include discussions on pre
vention and male issues, barbecuing, board games and paintball.
We are limited to 20 Grand Ronde Tribal and Native descendant
high school students and spots will be awarded on a first-come,
first-serve basis with a preference for CTGR youth. To request a

Gates Millennium
Scholarship applications
Gates Millennium Scholarships are open to all high school seniors, as well
as high school and GED graduates, who will begin classes Fall 2009.
You must be Native American, African American, Asian American or
Latino to apply.
This scholarship pays for 100 percent of unmet need for college for up
to nine years. Online applications are due Jan. 11, 2009.

$200 Youth Sponsorships
available to all CTGR youth
The Youth Sponsorship is available to any enrolled CTGR youth cur
rently in grades K-12.
CTGR Youth Sponsorship can only be used one time per calendar year
(Jan. 1 to Dec. 31). The amount of the sponsorship is for, but not to exceed,
$200.
The sponsorship can be used to pay for but not limited to any Cultural,
Educational or Athletic program or activity with proper documentation.
Eligibility Guidelines:
1. Youth must be an enrolled CTGR Tribal member.
2. Youth must be currently attending school or an alternative form of
certified and recognized educational program.
3. Youth must be in grades kindergarten through 12th.
Please keep in mind that the Youth Sponsorship can take up to three
weeks to process and we can only process complete applications.

Harvard University announced undergraduate students from low-income
families will no longer pay tuition. In making the announcement. Harvard's
President Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only 10 percent of the students
in Elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income
distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing
Elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."
If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor
student graduating from high school soon. Harvard University wants to
pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from
now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Har
vard for free... no tuition and no student loans! Visit Harvard's financial

Wal-Mart scholarship
applications now available
The following scholarships are offered through the Wal-Mart Founda
tion: The Sam Walton Community Scholarship:
A $3,000 college scholarship available to graduating seniors with at least
a 2.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need.
The Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship:
A $3,000 college scholarship available to Wal-Mart associates or depen
dents of associates who are graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 cumula
tive GPA and a demonstrated financial need.
The Wal-Mart Higher Reach Scholarship:
Provides a college scholarship up to $3,000 to Wal-Mart associates who
have been out of school for at least one year.
Scholarship Program administered by the Wal-Mart Foundation:
On behalf of the Walton Family Foundation, the Wal-Mart Foundation
administers the Walton Family Foundation Scholarship.
The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship is a $13,000 scholarship
paid out over four years. Applicants must be dependents of Wal-Mart as
sociates, have at least a 22 ACT or 1030 SAT (Critical Reading Math)
and prove financial need.

Student Artist Competition
"Tradition Is My Life: Education Is My Future"
Presented by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Indian Educa
tion, www.indiancducation.org.
Are you an American Indian or Alaska Native student who likes to draw,
paint, photograph or write?
If so, the Student Artist Competition might be for you! Students in
Grades Pre-K to 12th can submit artwork, including paintings, drawings,
photographs and digital art.
Writers in grades sixth through 12th can submit a personal essay.
All entries must be postmarked by Jan. 16, 2009.
