Coca-Cola scholarships
Applications are now being accepted for scholarships through the Coca
Cola Scholars Foundation. Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org.
Online application deadline is Oct. 31.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Awards 50 four-year $20,000 scholarships and 200 four-year $10,000 schol
arships for use at accredited colleges and universities within the U.S.
Rewards leadership and excellence as exemplified through academic
achievement and extracurricular activities, including commitment to
community service.
Available beginning in August as an electronic application.
Applications must be submitted by Oct. 31 of the senior year to qualify.
APPLICANTS MUST BE:
Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the U.S.
U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Temporary
Residents (in a legalization program); Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian
Entrants; or Humanitarian Paroles.
Seniors anticipating completion of a high school diploma during the aca
demic year in which application is made.
Seniors planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. postsecondary
institution.
Seniors carrying a minimum 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year of
high school.

This can be paid for through the Admission and Testing Fee Program.

SENIOR CHECKLIST
Register and take the SAT or ACT (if you are planning on
attending a four-year collegeuniversity)
Apply for admission to as many schools a9 you are interested
in by December 2008
Gather letters of recommendations from teachers, counsel
ors, coaches, mentors, etc., for scholarship applications in the fall
of 2008.
Apply, apply, apply for scholarships!! There will be scholar
ships at the collegeuniversities that you are thinking of attending.
Most scholarships are due in January 2009. Consider applying for
the Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) scholarship
at www.getcollegefunds.org or Gates Melennium Scholarship at
gmsp.org.
Attend a Financial Aid Night Event (we are hosting thi9 at
Willamina High School on Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
Fill out the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAF-
SA) as soon after Jan. 1, 2009, as possible www.fafsa.ed.gov
Attend College Goal Oregon in January 2009 at the CTGU
Education Division (to get assistance with completing the FAFSA
and information about scholarships).
Access the CTGU Admission & Testing Fee Program at any
time to get up to $200 per academic year to assist with college test
ing and ndmission application fee assistance.
Access the CTGU Graduation Sponsorship Program to get
up to $100 of assistance with your cap, gown and announcement
expenses.

Harvard Odd fivers fifty

Harvard University announced that from now on undergraduate students
from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement,
Harvard's President Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only 10 percent of
the students in Elite higher education come from families in the lower half of
the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in
bringing Elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."
If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor
student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay
the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on
undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...
no tuition and no student loans! To find out more about Harvard offering free
tuition for families making less than $60,000 a year, visit Harvard's financial
aid Web site at www.fao.fas.harvard.edu or call the school's financial aid of
fice at 617-495-1581.

available to, enrolled Tribal members pursuing a higher education.

Horatio Alger Association
scholarships available
Applications being accepted for the Horatio Alger Association Scholarships.
The eligibility criteria to be considered for National Scholarships and 1 loratio
Alger State Scholarship Programs are as follows:
1) Enrollment full time as a high school senior, progressing normally
toward graduation in the SpringSummer 2009, with plans to enter college
no later than the fall following graduation;
2) A strong commitment to pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited
institution (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and
then transfer to a four-year institution. Iiouisiana, Idaho, Iowa and Mon
tana state scholarship recipients must pursue a degree at specific colleges
and universities. Please see the individual program description for those
requirements);
3) Critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family
is preferred, if higher explanation must he provided);
4) Involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
5) Demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity;
6) A minimum grade point average of 2.0; and
