NEW for 2008 Early College
Scholarship Program
B The purpose of this program is to assist high school-aged students (16
years and older) who are members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde and choose to take college credit courses while still enrolled in high
school. Home schooled students also may participate in this program.
Students may take college courses toward high school graduation and
college degree completion.
H Qualified applicants are eligible for a funding amount not to exceed $500
per termquarter. Students on a semester system are eligible for funding
not to exceed $1,000 per semester6 months.
B The level of funding for this program is subject to availability of Tribal
resources and budget approval. There are a limited number of spots avail
able for this program for 2008.

Activity sponsorship for children
Early Childhood Education is now offering activity sponsorship for
preschool-age children involved in any recreation or educational program
for up to $200 per year. Please contact Sandy Bobb at 503-879-2161 for
an application and questions you may have.
Are you a senior in high school?
It is very important that you register for the ACT or SAT (if you are
thinking about going to a 4-year collegeuniversity)! You can do this by
going to www.collegeboard.com or www.act.org.
This can be paid for through the Admission and Testing Fee Program.

vocational training through the CTGR Education Division?

SENIOR CHECKLIST
. Register and take the SAT or ACT (if you are planning on
attending a 4-year collegeuniversity)
. Apply for admission to as many schools as you are interested
in by December 2008
Gather letters of recommendations from teachers, counsel
ors, coaches, mentors, etc., for scholarship applications in the fall
of 2008.
.Apply, apply, apply for scholarships!! There will be scholar
ships at the collegeuniversities that you are thinking of attending.
Most scholarships are due in January 2009. Consider applying for
the Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) scholarship at
www.getcollegefunds.org, Gates Melennium Scholarship at gmsp.
org.
. Attend a Financial Aid Night Event (we are hosting this at
Willamina High School on Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
Fill out the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAF-
SA) as soon after Jan. 1, 2009, as possible www.fafsa.ed.gov
Attend College Goal Oregon in January 2009 at the CTGU
Education Division (to get assistance with completing the FAFSA
and information about scholarships).
.Access the CTGR Admission & Testing Fee Program at any
time to get up to $200 per academic year to assist with college test
ing and admission application fee assistance.
, Access the CTGR Graduation Sponsorship Program to get
up to $100 of assistance with your cap, gown and announcement
expenses.

Applications are now available online for all CTGR Higher Educa
tion programs. Visit the Tribal Web page at www.grandronde.org

available to enrolled Tribal members pursuing a higher education.

Scholarship database launched
The National Indian Education Association launched a scholarship da
tabase for a variety of majors and degree types. Scholarships are listed in
order of deadline date with deadlines all the way to October 2008. Visit their
Web site at www.niea.orgmediascholarships.php to see which ones you are
eligible for.

C Dud bum Wawa courses
Lane Community College and Chemeketa Community College have joined
with the language program of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to offer
first- and second-year Chinuk Wawa beginning this fall.
The courses offer a unique language learning opportunity not only in modal
ity instruction is through the medium of IP video and small groups onsite
but also in terms of language structure and the unique status of Chinuk
Wawa as a language that connects Northwest Tribes.
Each site will have a qualified language mentorspeaker of Chinuk Wawa.
Tony Johnson, the head of the Grand Ronde Language Program, and Janne
Underriner, director of the Northwest Indian Language Institute at the
University of Oregon, will be instructors using IP video through the sites at
Grand Ronde and Lane Community College.
All credit students must register through Lane Community College at www.
lanecc.edu. New students should contact www.lanecc.eduesadmissions.html
to register.
There are a limited number of noncredit registrations available to those
with Tribal affiliations or instructor approval.
