Dear Smoke Signals:
I would like to thank S&T for their wonderful and moving letter high
lighting the Leno family and all of their achievements at our Tribe. It's
great to know that other Tribal members and employees of the Tribe aren't
petty and manipulative, and truly appreciate the success that others have
attained at great cost to themselves and their families.
Also, as timely as this letter could have been, I was greatly pleased
that it wasn't used as a cheap smear campaign against any family, any
constituency or any individual who may be running for Tribal Council
this year. Others would have taken the opportunity to hurl half-truths
and innuendo in an attempt to emotionalize the election, limiting true
election issue debate. Instead, S&T simply decided to emphasize the fact
that many of our j ribal members are returning to our traditional lands
and taking roles of importance in forwarding and promoting our economic
stability and cultural history through Tribal government service. This is
certainly something to be proud of.
Thank you for underscoring the fact that anyone with enough fortitude
and courage can serve our Tribal membership in so many capacities: from
Tribal Council to department and program leadership to board and com
mittee volunteerism.
You show with elegance and humility that we are all part of one nation,
one confederation of many Bands and Tribes, and one family who support
each other unconditionally, unreservedly and completely.

I am extremely upset with receiving a letter at my home address regard
ing Councilman Reyn Leno and his family.
As a member of CTGR, I have the right to expect that my personal in
formation is kept safe and confidential. This person or persons have not
just attacked Reyn and his family, but has jeopardized all of us on the
mailing list by this act. Our personal information is being utilized by an
apparent current employee for whatever cause.
I want the matter investigated and prosecuted.
On a personal note: How dare this person attack an Elder who has kept
our cemetery up for years. Shame on you! May you reap what you sow.
