Smoke Signals 9 JULY 1,2008 Rodeo enjoys great weather, leveD attendance By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor If more expensive gasoline affected the Grand Ronde Rodeo, you wouldn't have known it from the attendance. Tribal member Harold Lyon, chair of the Tribal Rodeo Special Event Board, said attendance during the two-day event held on the Tribal campus June 21-22 remained static at about 350 people same as in 2007. "We were lucky that we were, considering the situation with the gas," Lyon said. The rodeo also attracted eight vendors. Although attendance leveled off, the rodeo enjoyed perfect weather with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s. In addition, except for one broken arm, participants escaped injury. '- "It was the best run rodeo I've been involved with," Lyon said. . v . : '. " . Rodeo winners were: All-around: Charlie Barker of Terrebone. Bareback riding: Bryan Miller of Powell Butte. Saddle bronc riding: Charlie Barker of Terrebone. Bull riding: Jimmy Floyd of Prineville. Calf roping: Chris Jones of Oregon City. Breakaway calf roping: Sammy Jo Willis of Terrebonne. Steer wrestling: Bryan Barker of Bend. Team Roping Header: Bobby Alexander of Redmond. Team Roping Heeler: Shane Crossley of Hermiston. Barrel racing: Kelly Wallis of Canby. The rodeo was the ninth stop on the Northwest Pro Rodeo As sociation circuit. Events were held Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. BO's P9 Rodeo provided the stock, Scott Allen acted as the announcer, Ike Prior was the clown and Tyler Braseth was the bullfighter. B Jars ' ilV -4. v- .
