10 Smoke Signals JUNE 15,2008 Family Night Out barbecue set Fundraiser scheduled The fourth annual Family Night Out Meth Awareness Barbecue will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, on the old powwow grounds in front of the Governance Center on the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde campus. There will be family games and prizes, and free T-shirts while sup plies last. In addition, there will be face painting, caricatures, mechanical bull rides and an obstacle course and a bungee run. Held on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Honor Guard seeks past Veterans' Royalty The Grand Ronde Honor Guard wishes to honor all past Veterans' Royalty by having them attend the Friday evening Grand Entry of the Veterans' Powwow on July 11. Royalty members include Courtney Rose, Nikki Norwest, Ashley Tuomi, Leah Brisbois, Orin John Allen, and Halona and Leland Butler Jr., and all current Royalty and any Tribal members who were princesses. "We would also like to invite all past Tribal Royalty to join us in the Grand Entry on Friday," said Veterans' Special Event Board Chairman Steve Rife. "Please come and wear your sashes andor crowns." Those intending to attend should RSVP to Billie LaBonte at 503-879-5342 so she can compile a roster for the master of ceremonies. Tribal Elders Donna Casey and Norma Billings will hold a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Tribal Community Center to raise money for a trip to Ely, Nev. Their sister has congestive heart failure and the funds will be used for gas, food and lodging. Claudia Leno has volunteered to make Indian tacos. There also will be homemade pies and raffle tickets for sale. Tribal Facilities Supervisor Curtis Rentsch said the reader board, equipped with a wireless transmitter, should be operational by mid-July. It will be used to advertise Tribal events and notify area residents of closures during inclement weather.
