Dear Smoke Signals:
The family of Karen Merrill is deeply grateful for all the beautiful flow
ers and kindness extended during the loss of our loved one.
A special thank you to the Canoe Family for the memorable memorial
song and your love and support; to Tribal Council for your show of support
in attendance and flowers; the Sheridan Church of the Nazarene for the
great meal and memorial services; and Margo Mercier for all you do with
assisting families in providing services for their loved ones.
To all our friends and family who show us so much love and support, we
can never thank you enough.
Many thanks for the contributions; it is greatly appreciated.
The Merrill-Holmes Family
Dear Smoke Signals:
I would like to take this time to thank all of the people who helped make
the Elder's Halloween Ball a great success.
I would like to give a special thanks to Angie Sears, Jennifer Butler,
Violet Folden, Gladys Hobbs, Sharon Freund, Dawn LaChance, Linda
LaChance and her granddaughter, Tabitha, for all their hard work and
the long hours they put into decorating the Community Center.
Thanks to Louise Medeiros, Linda, Gladys and Violet for preparing the
food.
With all your help and hard work, the Halloween Ball was a big success.
Thanks ladies; you rock!
I would also like to thank all the musicians who came and played. You
did a great job.
Cherie Butler
Elders Committee vice chair
Dear Smoke Signals:
Dennis Dawkins wants to give a special "thank you" to Tina Dizick and
Sharon Freund for organizing the luncheon last month for him. He also wants
to add, 'Thank you to everyone for your prayers, thoughts and donations."
As most of you know, Dennis was injured on Sept. 16 in an accident at
his home when a boat fuel tank he was standing on exploded. He shat
tered the big bones in both of his feet and his left leg. One heel bone was
broken in about 20 places.
He spent a week and a half in the hospital, at Oregon Health Sciences
University, after having external braces surgically added to his leg and
both feet. He came home for about two weeks to wait for the skin and flesh
to heal, and the swelling to go down in both feet.
He went back to OHSU to have the external braces removed. Bars and
screws were put on the inside of his leg and feet. First they worked on the
right foot, and then the left leg and foot the next week.
He is now home but in more pain than before the last two surgeries. In
about two months he will have one or two more surgeries on each foot. He
can only get out of bed in his wheelchair for about an hour at a time. He
must lie in bed with his feet at about heart level. The doctor will not allow
him to put any weight on his feet for at least four more months.
If it was not for all of the fundraisers and donations, Dennis would not have
the money he needs for prescriptions and the down payment for his surgeries.
Thanks again family, friends and the community for your prayers and help.
The next fundraiser will be a 4x4 Cruise In with a chili feed and bake
sale on Nov. 17 at the Grand Ronde Community Center, 9615 Grand Ronde
Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is invited.
