Tribal Elder Grace Englehardt celebrated her 95th birthday on Aug.
1 8 at the Cougar Lodge with her son, George Thanos, of Hartsville,
S.C. Before being feted in Grand Ronde with a cake, Englehardt was
treated to a surprise barbecue with family members in McMinnville
hosted by her grandson, Bryan Langley.That afternoon, she enjoyed
the 2007 Contest Pow-wow with Thanos.
UofO Presents Course On
Cherokee Nation In September
EUGENE The University of Oregon School of Law and Cherokee Na
tion of Oklahoma will be offering a Cherokee Nation History course Sept.
7-9 and Sept. 21-23 at the school's Many Nations Longhouse.
Classes will be held 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and 21, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sept. 8-9 and 22-23. Receptions will be held 5 p.m. Sept. 7 and 4:30 p.m.
Sept. 21.
Cost is $10 for the public; University of Oregon law students and
Cherokee Nation members are free. To take the course, send an e-mail to
jmcoatesucdavis.edu.
The Cherokee Nation History Course will be held in conjunction with
the first annual Rennard Strickland Lecture Series, which will feature
University of Oregon law professor Mary Wood on Sept. 21. Wood teaches
federal Indian law, among other specialties.
