Attention Grand Ronde Tribal
8r Community Members:
The Cultural Resources Department is seeking individuals interested in
serving on the Grand Ronde Cultural Trust Board, part of the Oregon Cultural
Trust program. This is a statewide cultural plan to help raise funding for
investment in Oregon's Art, Humanities and Heritage. Cultural Trust funds
are dispersed annually to county, city, and Tribal governments in Oregon.
A Cultural Trust board consisting of five Tribal and local community members
is needed to assist in directing funds for various cultural activities through
small grants. Three seats on the board are open to general Tribal and com
munity members.
Individuals interested in serving are encouraged to apply. Applications for
the board are available at the Cultural Resources Department. All applications
must be turned in to Cultural Resources by 5 p.m. on Friday April 20.

Participating in Royalty court is an excellent opportunity for Tribal girls and
young women to learn our traditions and pow-wow protocol. Participants
represent the Tribe by attending pow wows and various community events.
We encourage all young woman ages 5-18 to join. Girls between ages 5-8
will participate as honorary princesses; they will not be required to compete.
Participants must provide their regalia. All participants will receive training in
dance, public speaking, pow-wow protocol, and crafts.
Serving on Royalty Court requires a considerable commitment from the
participant and her sponsor; travel, fundraisers, classes, and meetings are
required for all competing participants.

General Requirements:
1 . Enrolled Grand Ronde Tribal member

All interested girls and boys must be able to meet the following guidelines in order to be
eligible for the Veterans' Royalty Court:
All must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde.
Participants should have never been married and have no children.
All must be enrolled in and currently attending a public or private school.
All must be drug and alcohol free.
Must have one year of pow-wow experience.
Must have their own regalia, or be able to make their own regalia before the applica
tion deadline. Participants must be willing and able to attend all Veterans' events and
be prepared to represent the Veterans and the Tribe.
Must have a parent or sponsor willing to participate and attend activities with the girls
and boys and provide transportation.
Royalty Court participants and their parent or sponsor must attend all required events
(pow-wows, parades, fund-raisers, organizational meetings and others). Absences can
be prearranged with the Royalty Committee Advisor. Three unexcused absences will
result in disqualification from Royalty Court. Please note that all participants receive 1
point for every event for the contest. Royalty Court participants are expected to stay for
the duration of the events. This includes helping set up for events such as meetings and
parades, as well as dancing during Grand Entry, InterTribals and staying until the flags are
retired unless pre-approved with the Royalty Advisor. Participants are expected to speak
in front of large groups of people. Royalty Court participants must be willing and able
to dance. Remember: You are all part of a team and are expected to treat yourselves,
running mates and others with respect at all times.
As of July 9, 2007 you must be 1 0 to 1 4 years of age for Junior Veterans' Royalty Queen
Junior Veterans' Young Warriors; and 15 to 18 years of age for Senior Veterans' Royalty
QueenSenior Veterans' Young Warriors.
