Japanese Taiko Drummers Visit Tribe's Literacy Night

Youth Education Literacy Night on Thursday, March 15. Because of the special visit from the
Japanese School Taiko Drum Unit of Sheridan, the book selection for the evening was the
Japanese folktale, "The Bamboo Cutter and the Moon Maiden." Hannah McCallister (r) takes
an opportunity to try out the traditional Japanese Taiko drum.

During the spring break week of March 26-29, the Youth
Education Department held their annual spring break
camp trip at Camp West Wind near Lincoln City. About 40
students attended the camp trip and got the opportunity
to pull a traditionally-built canoe.
