Ira Burgess
August 23, 1916 December 5, 2006
Tribal Elder Ira Burgess passed away
December 5. Ira was 90 years old. He
was a WW2 Veteran and was in the Army
serving in the Aleutian Islands.
He was married to Beulah F. Burgess
from 1945 to 1978, the year of her death.
He married Vivian Buchanan in Washing
ton in 1982. She died several years later.
He then married for the 3rd time, Bessie
Rife. He was married to her at the time
of his death.
He had six children, two sons who died
at birth, Sheran Irene Fillman (died in
1995), Steven Burgess and wife, Jenny of Myrtle Creek, Oregon,
Timothy Burgess of Myrtle Creek, and Rev. Patrick Burgess and
wife, Jean, of Sioux City, Iowa. He had nine grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.
Ira was a logger all of his life. He was born in Dixie.Washington.
His parents were Tena Irene Jeffers Burgess and Joesph Burgess.
He had one brother, Perry, now deceased. He had several step
siblings. .
He lived with his son Patrick for seven of the last months of
his life and wanted to be buried in Oregon where his first wife is
buried. So in September 06' he was brought to the Grand Ronde
Adult Foster care facility and was one of the first to reside there.
He was very content to be back in his home state of Oregon.
Delbert Wayne Bell
August 25, 1939 November 22, 2006
Delbert Wayne Bell was born to Angeline
Rippen Bell and Arthur Lincoln Bell on
August 25, 1939 in Chemewa, OR. He was
the 11th of 12 children born to the couple.
A younger brother died in infancy making
Delbert the youngest child in the family. He
was a proud member of the Confederated
Tribes of Siletz of Oregon and was raised
in Logsden-Siletz where he attended grade
school and high school.
Delbert served in the US Army from 1957
to 1960 and was stationed in Fort Riley Kansas and in Germany.
He worked in the timber industry in both the Siletz area and in
Springfield, OR after moving there in the late 60s. In the late 70s
he began working in various jobs for the Confederated Tribes of
Siletz and continued in that work until going to work for the State
of Oregon Adult and Family Services in 1987 where he worked
until his retirement in July 2002.
Delbert played football while in high school and was proud to play
softball for quite a few years in championship All Indian Teams
around the area. He continued to be an avid sport fan for his entire
life and especially rooted for the Oregon Ducks. Delbert married
Karen Nyman in 1980 In Reno, Nevada and they later divorced.
He married Sharen Hulegaard in June 1990 in Reno, Nevada.
Delbert died of liver and kidney failure on Wednesday, November
22 at Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene, Or with his wife, children,
nieces and nephews surrounding his bed.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter Sara Bell and her Husband
David Tellez of Siletz; a son Lincoln Flores of Eugene; a sister
Clarice "Babe" McKnight of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Chuck
Ricks of Logsden; three stepsons; Brett Cobb and his wife Kelly of
Salem; Jason Cobb and his wife Shauna of Warrenton and Damon
Skogseth of Springfield; 6 grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews.
He was loved and respected by his family and friends and will be
missed very much.
His funeral was on Saturday, December 2 at the Siletz Tribal
Community Center, followed by a graveside service. He was buried
beside family members at Paul Washington Cemetery on Govern
ment Hill in Siletz, OR.

The Grand Ronde Tribal Housing Authority is soliciting bids from contrac
tors to perform periodic maintenance work for GRTHA owned housing in
Grand Ronde. All contractors are required to meet Davis Bacon standards.
Bids for services needed are in the following areas: general carpentry, plumb
ing, HVAC, cleaning, electrical, painting and appliance repair.
Proposals must be received at the Grand Ronde Tribal Housing
Authority, 28450 Tyee Road, Grand Ronde, Oregon 97347 no later
than 4 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2007.

Executive Director Willamette Academy
Willamette University invites applications for the position of Executive
Director of the Willamette Academy, an academic enrichment and college
access program for students historically underrepresented in higher edu
cation; the program serves students in grades 7-12 in the Salem-Keizer
school district. The Executive Director is responsible for fundraising,
curricular and co-curricula r planning; parent programming; creating con
nections with school district personnel, campus faculty and community
and business leaders. Qualifications: a master's degree in an appropri
ate area; knowledge of student development theory; a minimum of three
years of appropriate professional experience including fundraising; strong
communication skills; appreciation for diverse populations; organizational
