MaxineMary Leno January 24, 1922 November 25, 2006 Tribal Elder Maxine Leno, 84, of Grand Itonde passed away Saturday, November 25, 2006. She was born on January 24, 1922 in Brooks, Oregon one of 13 children born to Thomas and Elvira Langley McKnight. She was raised in Grand Ronde. She married Arnold "Arnie" Leno in 1942, and they later divorced. He preceded her in death in 1971. Maxine moved to Nevada and then moved to California to live from 1956 to 1992. As part of the Termination Act of 1954, Maxine attended and graduated from beauty school in Oakland, California. A picture of her is in the National Archives at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. She owned two restaurants and a beauty shop all while raising her family as a single parent. Her door was always open. She returned to live in Grand Ronde in 1992. She was the kind of person who would do anything for people. She loved her family and gave unconditional love to all. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons David Leno of Roseburg, Tom Leno of Willamina, Bob Leno of Grand Ronde, daughters Dorothy Leno of Grand Ronde and Denise Harvey of Tualatin along with 14 grandchildren, Lisa, Dana, Chris, Ben, Tara, Lisa, Lacy, Sean, Jared, Nicole, Marissa, Lyndsey, Blair and Alex, nine great grand children and her puppy "Suzie". Also surviving are sisters Barbara Feehan of Milwaukie, Beverly Cooney of Sherwood, Judy Olsen of Sheridan and Dorothy Lawe of Salem and brother Rick McKnight of Willamina. She was preceded in death by a son Gary and a grandson Ryan and seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 30 at the Grand Ronde Tribal Gym. Vault interment will follow in the Grand Ronde Tribal Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the National Leukemia Association or to the Tribal Foster Care Program in care of the mortuary at 287 S.W. She was born on November 6, 1936 in St. Helens, Oregon the daughter of Clifton Delo and Helen Ursula Woolstenhulme Reynolds. She grew up in St. Helens and Sheri dan and attended high school in Sheridan. Eleanor married Marvin Loren Kimsey Sr. on November 25, 1954; they are parents of five children. She has lived in Grand Ronde for more than 50 years. She worked as a waitress, in a lumber mill, as a clerk for the Willamina Police Department. Eleanor and Marvin owned and operated a filling station and she worked with the Thousand Trails Camp ground as office manager. She enjoyed crocheting, painting, swimming and collecting strawberries. She loved to watch Price Is Right, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Dr. Phil. She was very proud of pushing the winning car over the finish line and taking second in a stock car race. She was a member of the PTA and was a room mother while her children were in school. She is survived by her daughters Karen Marie Lord of Grand Ronde, Virginia Anne Roof of Otis, Christie Diane Loomis of LaPine, and Colleen Lee Branson of Willamina and a son Duke Kimsey of Grand Ronde along with 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are her parents Clifton and Helen Reynolds of McMinnville, a sister Shirley Ann Holstad of Tillamook, brothers Daniel Ray Reynolds of Ferndale, Washington and Timothy Kirk Reynolds of Utah. She was preceded in death by a grandson Levi Brendon Baker. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 13 in the Grand Ronde Nazarene Church.
